On Thursday, Rep. Sam Johnson, a Republican from Texas and chair of the Ways and Means Committee, introduced legislation to significantly cut Social Security.

The bill introduced by Johnson, who is also the chair of the Social Security subcommittee, slashes benefits, adds means testing, and would raise the retirement age from 67 to 69.

For most workers, the bill would cut Social Security benefits substantially. As Michael Linden, associate director for tax and budget policy at Center for American Progress, pointed out on Twitter, a letter from Social Security’s Office of the Actuary calculated workers making around $50,000 would see checks shrink by between 11% and 35%.

Nearly every income bracket would see a reduction, save for the very bottom. People making around $12,280 in 2016 who have worked for 30 years would see an increase of around 20%. But young people making the same amount would be hit hard by the changes. If they had 14 years of work experience by 2016, they would see their benefits cut in half.

Of course you would encourage this you fall into the bottom tax bracket with 30 yrs of working for peanuts!

I'm guessing he hasn't been paying in to SSI for decades if ever. Its my guess that he's not now, either.

Either way, he's fucked. Alone, no social security or medicare, a bad back and meager savings. Stray dogs have a better life than the one NLX is headed towards when the housing market crashes and he's unemployable.

So a 2015 study from Berkeley found that all social programs in the United States cost about 157 billion dollars a year.

157 billion...out of a 6.55 trillion dollar budget.

I'm stoned so I apologize if I'm off by a factor of 10 here, but that's like having 65 bucks in your pocket and not giving a homeless dude 15c so he can take care of himself.

or maybe closer to 75,000. and still paying off loans.

Yeah, I'd be worried as fuck if I were him. The people who claim they don't like it are the 1st fuckers in line 6 months before they're eligible.

Maybe Trump can put him on hold for a couple extra years. Sounds more fair than raising the $118,500 pay in cap to him anyway, right?
