Goodbye 41

I'm very conflicted about GHWB passing.
I greatly admire the man for his service to this country when at 18 he enlisted in the Navy, and put himself in harms way when he could have easily avoided service (fuck you Trump, you loathsome weasel).
I also admire him for calling Trump an "egomaniac blowhard", and his high ideals when he stated that the US should represent a "thousand points of light".
I can't forgive him though for knowingly aiding the Contras in Nicaragua thereby causing thousands of needless deaths to citizens of a country just seeking justice.
All that I think I know now, is that he was a good man that loved his country and tried his best in his own way to defend it, with high morals, something that is so sorely missing today in the WH.

Well, his buddy Reagan with his "trickle down" economic philosophy sure made him swallow those words, seeing as tax increases were inevitable.
He had it right though when he called Reagan's plans "voodoo economics"
Sad to think that the US hasn't learnt a fucking thing about tax structure and debt in the 30+ years since Reaganomics came about, because with "Trumpinomics", we are surly going to be fucked harder than what Reagan did to the US in the 80's.
 
Not a fan of 41 at the time. But with the aid of time, I can admit he was better than I thought. He did do some good things. His son's actions later showed us that not going into Baghdad was the right thing to do.

And when the USSR crumbled, he didn't try to jump on their throat. That could have been a very nasty transition and we got through it with no shots fired.

Bush understood diplomacy and how quickly a country on the ropes can become a real long-term pain in the ass. At the same time, the whole Kuwait thing probably stemmed from a diplomatic blunder of epic proportions when the Dept of State allowed Hussein to think we would be uninterested in his invasion of Kuwait. That sure did bring a fuckload of problems.

The stupidest thing he ever said was "Read my lips: no new taxes". That fuck up alone has a lot to do with the rise of the right-wing lunatic fringe like Newt "alternative facts" Gingrich and Mitch "wipe my ass with the Constitution" McConnell.

Ah well, the old spook is dead now and he kept grabbing girls' asses right to the bitter end.

At least he had the guts to actually fight when his country was at war. All Republican Presidents look better with the current national disgrace in office.

It was a fucked up time. I was there on the Saipan doing a mock invasion of Kuwait in '82. Ironic the old bathtub was back doing the real thing not long afterward. The lines the Armistice of Mudros drew in 1918 are going to be a pain in our ass for a long time to come.
