I'm looking to begin my first indoor grow this fall. What is your choice for good strains to start with? Something somewhat forgiving in an organic grow. I'll be using HPS lighting, no watt or size restrictions. Looking for great yield and solid quality. I'm looking to start with 2-3 strains to learn the trade, so I want something that I can grow into (ha). No specific medical conditions. Thanks in advance!

Cannot grow wrong with old school strains like northern lights or solid indicas like afghani kush to begin your growing adventure but don't be afraid to get outside your comfort zone with a hybrid. Pure Sativas are not terribly difficult to grow either they just need more time than typical noobs have the patience for. Once you get established and have supply try a sativa dom but wait till then to pop one.
There are soooo many strains out there it seems hard to choose but if you try to begin with Indica or hybrid strains you've smoked yourself and liked you cannot really make a bad choice. Stay away from the gimmicky strains they try to market in the top 10 most potent or whatever lists- cup winners are a bunch of bullshit. Not saying there aren't great strains listed but there's usually a reason they want to sell these seeds in particular. Strains I though were gonna be the frikkin bomb turned out to be meh.
I find going by the lineage of the crosses of weed you smoked and enjoyed is the best guide to choosing new strains to aquire seed for. Ex: I love growing this Strawberry Sour Diesel - strawberry cough x NYC diesel- nobody had suggested it nor had I heard of it but I knew both were great- how could a cross not be? Exceeded my expectations of flavor & potency so I kept a mother to clone which is always a good idea for proven strains you wanna keep. SSD is easy to grow & done in 9-10 weeks. Here's a pic of one just before harvest:

Running Afghani from StrainBank right now. Some ot the best you can get in old original genetics. Very hearty, good yield. Quick flower time - 45 to 55 days!

Just pick what you find interesting. There isn't a strain that is invulnerable, you just have to learn to grow and the best way to learn is by making mistakes. A lot of growers only seem to care about yield, most strains yield well if you grow them properly.
And I've seen people call strains easy to grow and then post pictures of half dead plants that barely have trichomes.

Just ordered some Boo Dweam from HSO, pretty excited to see how it performs for me. I also got that Strawberry Sour Diesel from Devil's Harvest. I was looking for a Strawberry and a Diesel, and woah dude, I got both! (also Scott's OG, Honey Bananas, and Purple Paralysis)
I know some strains are sensitive to nutrients, some to high temps etc. If you have a reasonable environment for your garden they are all just plants and you'll be able to grow them if you're paying attention.
