After a bit of research I think I'm better going with the latest tech being the 315w

Cheers for your help bro. You have a fuck load of knowledge on this shit!!

In the meantime i have a spare 125w cfl bulb. You think there would be any point dangling that in the middle as well, or just dangle it close to the plants and just move it in front of a different plant each day? It's spectrum is aimed at veg
I would put the 125W CFL on the shelf. If you want to use CFL tech, use smaller lamps and more of them, to allow you to get more foliage closer to the light source. Or use T5. Or even a simple shoplight. The shape of the 125W CFL just doesn't lend itself well to growing things.

So I've been drinking and decided to add another lamp to my 4x4, I have a 1k hps hanging high and a 600w sont plus hanging low.

My question is, is it worth the extra light. Going from 27c to 32c?

People moan about high temps but plenty of outdoor grows here would have experience way higher temps the 35c
32C too high. While another bulb might be helpful, if it degrades the environment too much then on balance it's not worth it.

Stack the 600W and 400W. Or two x 600W.

Yeah you're def right. It climbed up to 34c...yikes. I only have one 400w ballast and need the 400w mh for my veg tent and I only have one 600w. Don't want to spend more on hps, as I want to go with those cdm's in the future n

Maybe I should try dropping in the 400w? And use the 600w for veg.

Power is cheap at the moment hahaha

Hey ttystikk, would two 600w hps stacked be comparable to one 1k hps? How about heat wise

Thinking of maybe grabbing another 600w ballast.

I think the coverage if two bulbs would be way better than one.

Throwing in another vote for 2x 600w. Unless you have very little headroom you can put a stack like that to good use for sure. I can only get about 4-4.5 vertical feet of "wall canopy" with a single bulb.

I run 2 x 600 watts but they are in cool tube's. Ok. You loose something to the glass but I think that's negligible. My footprint is 1.20m x 1.50m and I have about 2.65m in height. I don't utilise the height the best but the lights have a 1.80m vertical spread from top light socket to tip of lower bulb. Which by my reckoning also gives me a good 1.8 vertical metres of usable light to create a vertical canopy. I am not sure if my space could handle 2 bare bulbs but I have ran 2 x 600 hps and a 400w MH in the middle previously. Was great but ridiculous power consumption so i cut back to the 2 6s. I guess what I am trying to say is that for 2 lights in the vertical styleee with a footprint of 4x4 you will always have temperature issues unless you utilise tube's or add additional cooling methods. It's very possible to do though.

So have decided the best thing probably to do is upgrade my flower tent exhaust to a 8inch / with filter and I can run my 6 inch in the veg tent.

In a week or so ill change that 1kw bulb to two 600s. I just think that will be better light coverage.

My main concern is, will two 600w be hotter then the one 1kw bulb.

After having seen how my girls respond to 315W CMH lights I'm considering suggesting to you that you run several of those in the silo. 2 per vertical meter sounds like a good place to start.

I plan to try something similar with my 860W CDM Allstart lamps, using a low frequency square wave ballast.

Wow are they running that cool. I really want to run the 315w, but its going to cost me $1,500 nzd to set up two.... Where as I can grab another 600w bulb and ballast for $200.

Well, kits are $200US. Are you sure that Kiwi Kustoms would make you pay five times the cost?

Yeah bro. Basically they will nearly charge the same in shipping costs. Our customs and excise make us pay duty on the total cost including shipping costs and insurance. Its bullshit. I used to have loads of problems when I was buy performance parts for a car I used to own.
