Hi All, would like to hear from growers who are in Pro Mix or Sunshine going from bagged soil. What were the changes if any did you have to make when switching ? What were the reasons that you switched from soil to soilless ?

Is there a problem @ChaosHunter?

Weren't we all just talking about ocean forest on another thread? I have used both but really pro mix is still done like a soil grow. It has a lime buffer.

Just doesn't feed the plants for long before the need to add fertilizer. It has a seedling starter charge in it. Lasts about week 2.

I get better results in amended soil like ocean forest because of the vast amount of different micro nutrients in the organic inputs. Especially seaweed and worm castings. And plants like the slow release.

It's the transition to feed that was the only tricky part. But 20% added perlite usually solves any nute problems with added drainage.

I used botanicare kind trio with pro mix hp for a year or so. Great results. Good high and flavor but it was obvious which was better when I switched to the ocean forest. But there was a learning curve of course.

@MichiganMedGrower its disheartening is all, if it was a one time deal with FFOF I can understand. It just seems like I get a bag every now and then that has more parts than others. Its as if all the components were not added equally as they should have. The bags that are right are great ! I talked to my supplier and if I dump a bag out and find this again I can bring it back.

I can tell as soon as I dump out a bag if its not right. I dump and amend everything and am interested in consistency. Your saving me from going down the rabbit hole lol.

I forget what was wrong with your bag. I have 2 places that brings the bags right in off the truck and stores inside a retail store and I have had perfect consistency.

I think mine comes from the East coast facility as I am in the Michigan. But I'm sure all soil suppliers have issues time to time. I always buy an extra bag and I always try to get fresh delivered ones. Not bottom of the pallet heavy smashed ones.

Good to check for lightness and fluffiness even in the sealed bag. Shows if it may have gotten wet.

Pro mix is a cleaner medium to work with. Doesn't get anything dirty like of. Just another plus. And it's cheaper by a lot.
