i just started my grow from seeds about three weeks ago. They are doing fine and are about 10" tall. I'm on a twenty four hour time lights on schedule. I have been reading that 24 hour light can cause more males. Is it Ok to switch to 18/6. Should i do it in steps or what? Will it cause problems and not be worth it? I'm putting them into 12/12 flowing in about three weeks. Any help would be welcomed.......

I've actually heard the opposite of that.
I was informed that the longer the light schedule the more chances to have a male, as the plant thinks its already too late to produce any buds, so it just turns male and pollenates

In my experience the light cycle does not have too much to do with male and female pecentages.

I go for 18/6 because it cuts down on the $$$ spent on electricity and it does not make much of a difference as far as growth is concerned.

I have also heard that the dark periods allow for better root developement. While this may be true, I can't tell because I am a soil grower.

18/6 if you wanna save a few bones per day!

all respect to u fella but in my experience going 24/0 makes a hudge difference, the plants are shorter and grow much more side growth wilst staying short, more side growth=more bud sites, tho this is for the person who made the thread, ok buddy, ide start on 24/0 for 2-3 weeks then its ok just to switch straight to 18/6. u dont have to do it over a fiew days, just set ur timer to go 18/6 ul be fine. if ur using cfl for veg u will hardly notice the difference in amount of electricity used, if u were using 400-600hps or mh now then u might think bout cutting down to 18/6 from the beggining.

rite heres wot ive found works best, from seed

2-3 weeks in 24/0
2-3 weeks in 18/6 to get some upward growth as the plant will stretch a bit in the dark looking for light

and then the lovely 12/12, simple.

ide like to add this is all down to personal preferance!!!!!!!!!!! good luck all:bigjoint:

Thank you all for your time. I now have more pieces to finish my puzzle. That puzzle being max yield, max potency, least hassle. I do love learning new things about taking care of my girls. Thanks all...........

I switch from 24 to 12/12 usually but I'm thinking of trying 13/11 heard it helps the buds to mature a little faster.Gonna switch in a weel or so. Any experience or comments on 13/11 as opposed to12/12 for flower?
