you do need ventilation really. for your lighting, If you get enough cfl light to do what a hps will do you'll spend as or more on power.

you really should just upgrade to HID, they're far more efficient and their lumen output is sky high compared to the compact flourecent lights. A 400 watt metal halide at 4200K or more will be plenty of light for at least four plants, then add more ballists and bulbs as needed.

the lowest cost of a ballast i found was 180 american.. so 230sh canadian.. plus shipping prolly 250... then the actualy hps/mh bulbs.. the fixture and the reflector.. then fans. (excluding nutes n such, cuz u need them for cfl too)... cfls just need a fixture and a reflector.. fans are optional. seems alot less expensive.

But its just... i look online and there are so many bulbs and ballasts.. some are specific to only 1 kind of bulb and shit... then i dont even know how to set up a ballast... do u just connect it to your fixture?... and connect the ballast into an outlet or power strip.? id like to go hids.. its just i dont know as much about them... help would be appreciated about how to hook it up

you might want to get a light pre assembled. check HTG for light kits. it's all very basic wireing. red to re black to black and white to white unless your in canada then I have no clue. do you have 110 power

that home depot giant 68watt cfl emits 4200 lumens so two of em should be more than enough for one plant

And thats a standard bulb with no fixture. I could not find anything over 42w with out a ballast. let me know if they work I would trade them out with the 42's in a heart beat.

yes not ballast needed goes right into a regular socket you would use for an incandescent bulb(all though if you get those light sockets with cone reflectors it will not let it screw in all the way.. just take the cone off and your good.

I bought my 64/300 watt CFL's at Home Depot..$16 a piece....I work there man, they got them. Grab some 8 inch shop lights while youre at it. the poor mans CFL shopping cart.

you'll pay the same in power for = lighting and just about the same for lights. 400w mh $150-200 or 4 100w cfl's at about 50 ea. both 400w same cost to run. same cost to buy. just a thought. I'm sure you can get a deal on what ever way you go.

yeah.. but hids need a ballast...150-250.. then ducting... 25 bucks.. then inline fans in the ducting.. and other fans you want for cooling... good exhaust fans are like 150-250. 440cfm.

cfls need a reflector/fixture.. and can be 2-4 inches from the plants at al ltimes...
