The title says it all, i killed 5 of the fuckers crawling up outa the soil i was wondering why the seeling hadn't even broken the surface yet, after i found th ese i went digging and th e seed has vanished. what can i do to get rid of these fuckers

I would vote fungus gnats or much worse root aphids. Best way to know the difference is fungus gnats can't reach the light, root aphids can. So if you have bugs burnt to the bulb probably RA's, but otherwise i would just assume you have fungus gnats. Best way to get rid of Fungus gnats is with nematodes.

Sorry to hear that my friend.

I have been fighting fungus gnats for 2 months now and the best I can do is regulate the population.

Here is what I recommend:

1. Get fly strips, place them horizontally along the top of the soil. You will catch more putting the strips closer to the soil and running them horizontally.
2. Get mosquito dunks, crush them and apply to top of soil on all plants. Also crush some up in a squirt bottle and apply this water to your soil tops.
3. Water plans sparingly. Your plants will do find without water for a week or so.
4. Vacuum your grow area frequently.

I've found with the combination above I can regulate the population but not kill them all.

The worst thing about fungus gnats is when you see 5 of them there are actually 100 that you're not seeing. So if you see 25, thats 500 and so on :/

They will come in blooms of hundreds or thousands as each gnat can lay 100's of eggs. I've definitely caught over a thousand on a fly strip during a hatch bloom.

I've had the same problem and although the yellow sticky traps catch a few I just use them as a guide to see how many are in the room. I spray with Neem but i want to soil drench it too. Have you tried this?

What is neem?

I've been doing everything and also spraying the soil with a water mix of 3% hydrogen peroxide and these guys just keep coming.

Neem oil is a very common pesticide. Anything using the "aza" name is derived from neem oil, Azamax is probably the most common and widely available.

dude i tried all this and they stayed around went and got some light spray pesticide....problem solved just dont do in the end of flowering

Fungus gnats can just as easily fly all over the place...so would end up in your lights...they are gnats for chrissakes...lol.

And if it is fungus gnats or root aphids then predatory nematodes and allowing the pots to dry more in between waterings will get rid of them...If they are fungus gnats you only get them in soil if you overwater...so stop overwatering...lol. Fungus gnats are super common, and seldom cause issues, but you also said this is a seed you are trying to sprout...they can keep eating the root tips off, unless you have some leaves or something to just stick down in the soil, or a piece of potato...that will keep them busy not eating your roots...anyway...nematodes will kill them...and not overwatering will keep them away...and if you get them in hydro it is because you have light hitting water somewhere...lol.

Ever left a wet towel in a room somewhere or something? And it gets gnats...or those weirdo gnats that hang out around leaks and such...those are fungus gnats...they are a common pest even if you have no plants...

I first got them in hydro and couldn't get rid of them with anything...because there was still light getting into the bucket...so when I would kill a set, more would just come set up camp...so nothing worked except fixing the issue...I have gotten them in some very slow growing house plants in soil...not in my closet garden, but in my regular one...I have too many plants that need too many things to water the plants that would prefer to get dry and dusty in between waterings...Tomatoes suck down water like you wouldn't believe...!

Best thing that i did to get rid of gnats a year ago was. Let my soil dry out till my plants were almost wilted 2 different times. Then on the third time i hit my soil with
Beneficial Nematodes which basically eat whatevers in the soil(Eggs, Gnats)
Havent seen them since

Don't forget, some of us are in heated battle at the moment with the mother fuckers!!! I know them well believe me, i see them every night. I have done much research including talking to people who grow commercially and have to deal with these things often.
Don't believe me if you want, but wait till you get some root aphids, they make fungus gnats look like sissys. Harder to eradicate than spidermites second only to russet mites, don't underestimate.

They are fuckers for sure but when I see more after a spraying I assume they are freshly hatched and this is why I want to do a Neem soil drench - to get the eggs.

YELLOW STICKY TRAPS SHOULD BE TREATED AS A GUIDELINE TO WHATS IN THE ROOM AND NOT AS A PREVENTATIVE MEASURE.
