That's merely your 2+2+22 interpretation rather than the logical 2+2=4. Your conclusion is based on a false premise (that less leaves result in more bud and I haven't already achieved an optimal source to sink ratio for my entire grow.)

lollipopping... wrong thread. This is defoliation :dunce: The frosty fans are obviously near the top so lollipopping is n/a. I train my plants too... long before they get this frosty obviously.

Does shade reduce light, yes.
Does light effect yield, yes.
Do fan leaves sometimes shade supporting colas, yes.
Would removing a couple fans be detrimental to a healthy good sized plant, no.
Would increasing light to the plant increase yield, yes.

There's a reason why scroggers clip most everything under the net, because they are shaded and don't produce.
And no I'm not talking about bottom of the plant buds that someone said is 'controlled hormonally', I'm talking only 10 inches under the colas just below the net.

Am I saying ripping off every fan or leaf is going to increase yield or not hurt the plant, no.
I feel that pulling 2 or 3 fans if they are covering whole branches or colas (like indicas tend to do) is worth the extra light through out the plant and the plant is not going to fret over 2 or 3 missing fans.
Sometimes training or tying down can avoid the need to pull any though or if there is a place to tuck them away.

Just some thoughts.
Not saying anyone's wrong or I'm right. Just trying to add to the discussion.

I'm starting to think I don't have a butt... I frequently detect the butthurt emotion in others but honestly I don't really 'recognize' that emotion from experience. I think you were funny and I thought you were semi-joking. The fact you without any logical reason assume I'm "butthurt" probably means you are projection your emotions on me so I will give you a moment to recover before we continue.

No. Your conclusion is based on a false assumption you make based on the pic I posted, that it's possible to have the trichs that are on leaves on the buds "instead", while they are a free bonus. There's no false dilemma. It's also based on not understanding leaves create frosty buds, and leaves. Besides that... you'd also be wrong about why I posted that picture. It was as much an argument as yours... i.e. not. If I actually wanted to make an argument against defoliation I'd do so explicitly with facts and logical conclusions based on those facts, as in one of those "lengthy word salads".

So, tripple-fail... You have zero lives left, insert the food above to continue.

Only 15% of the light is actually absorbed by the leaf. The remaining 85% passes right through. Having more leaves in an overlapping type of pattern is likely one of the best ways to maximize light absorbtion. Who's to say how much is ideal but if they're there the plant is probably using them. Sometimes, if there is a n abundance of N showing, I'll clip some leaves in an attempt to balance things out. That's me, though. I'm a rebel. :p

Well never met the man but I'm sure there's a few similarities. Old, cranky, and I think thats where it ends lol. I dont take things quite as seriously as UB but that may be a failing on my part. I try not to be condescending and try to foster experimentation. I feel the best way to expand knowledge is to try a few things and if they fail....well then you don't do that again lol. I teach a trade in the class as well as in the field and far be it for me to tell my guys that trying new things is the wrong approach and actually encourage them within reason lol. Some shit can kill you :( . This is growing pot people, if it dies, oh well lol. Everyone gets so bloody passionate to the point of being just fucking rude. It just boggles my mind lol. The herb is supposed to be about peace and love, flowers (daisies) in your hair, Volkswagen vans, well you know what I mean lol. Oh god I am old lol.

but i think you should let the man speak for himself rather than guessing

UB does not want to give a answer because he is not so knowledgeable about hydroponics
that is why instead of giving a recommendation of which medium to use for germinating rather than paper towels
