Greetings RIU'ers

I'm running GH Flora Nova nutrient line Part A and B

I'm currently in flower (Week 2) and running my PPM @ 800.. I'm wondering your thoughts on increasing the PPM to 850-900. I'm running 50/50 Coco & Perlite in 5 gallon Smart Pots.

PPM isn't a good measuring tool to use, different meters use different scales of measuring PPM so on one meter you might take a measurement of 1000ppm on another it might be 700PPM, use EC its much more accurate. You should have an EC between 1 and 1.5 at that point of flowering. Good luck!

True, but GH uses Hanna scale and he did post that. (800PPM's =1.6EC), but agreed EC and CF are universal, and this site is multi-regional. It would be easier for the reader to give more accurate help by using EC.

Your strength depends on what your plants can handle. Smaller plants in flower don't need heavy nuts, as an increase in size will need more.

I would say, well don't have enough info to accurate answer. I recommend posting a picture, or just listen to your plants. Are they showing deficiencies? If no, then no; I wouldn't increase Nut strength.

Ppm is great for ppl in the US.

Here is how I use my tds-3 meter. It uses the Hanna scale but that doesn't matter.

1. Check ppm. Example 500 ppm

2. Wait 24 hours and check again.

2a. If the ppm is higher, plants aren't eating. 500 ppm was to strong. Cut with ph'd water to 450 ppm and repeat steps 1 and 2.

2b. If ppm is lower, plants are eating too much. 500 ppm was to weak. Mixing up a slightly more concentrated nute mix and add to you rez. Repeat steps 1 and 2.

I try to get my ppm to stay the same. This is at least how I do it.

I get by with 6-800 ppm in flower and almost never any yellow leaves. All plants are different. I would start light and add more if you see some yellow.

This isn't the US, it the internet; the planet. I think the point is, starting a thread with PPM's without stating the scale, is bad practice for someone asking for help. Its making the reader do the work of figuring out the EC, then translating into a different scale for what they're use to. Its just being lazy.

Agreed. 500ppm, 700ppm and 800ppm could all be 1.0ec.

I would hope most people would do their own conversion to put everyone on the same page. 1000 ppm = 1 EC. I hate math just as much as the next guy but it ain't rocket science.

OK, old dawgs can change. For some reason I always thought of this as a mostly US site. Since it is a global website and the rest of the metric world doesn't use ppm's, I will always use EC from now on and avoid any of this confusion. FWIW my babies like a measly .6-.8 EC. Peace Bros.

Most US-West Coast companies use Hanna. GH uses Hanna. Hanna's is (.5), so 1 EC is 500 PPM's. This confusion is exactly why it's important for "us", the user, to set the standards that work for all.

I, personally, don't like Hanna.

My tds-3 (ebay) uses the Hanna factor also. Didn't tell me. I had to seek the info out online. They should have let me know in the instructions.

When a Hanna reads 500 that is 1000 ppm's or 1 EC (mustn't forget to do the math). I think people are still going to have to do math to figure EC and there will still be confusion; especially when you add killer green bud into the equation. Good luck fellow tokers.

Look at my first post.

If you use this method it doesn't matter. This tunes the nutes to the plants uptake. This is the proper way to use a tds and ec meter.

Can't overfeed and can't underfeed with this method.

I've been using hanna grocheck continuous meters since they came out, they use the .7(700) conversion;-) the newer model is selectable though.

I end up at 1.7-1.8EC with the floranova in coco, and soiless. Works great. 5ml/gal. Same with the maxi.

I use Hanna and have zero problems. A Primo 4.

you sure you aren't using flora duo? that is A and B. floranova is a one part nute. work up slowly until you see some tip burn and then back off a bit. i usually don't go higher than 1.2EC.
