Getting rid of root aphids

i think i got the same problem, and when i was looking at how to get rid of them' i was reading this thing about using tabbaco juice, it was called. it said to take 2x strong ciggerets and soak them in water for 24hrs, then next day boil the juice for 3-4mins, let cool down then spray leaves and put into soil. i have been abit of umm about using this as i hear that if plants come into smoker filled air it can give the plant/plants something but cant remeber what called.

Using tobacco juice is an excellent pesticide, and has been used as a natural product for many years.

But whatever you use to get rid of root aphids, it's best to submerge the entire medium in the solution, if possible. Obviously only with plants in pots, I have dunked pots of rocks and pots of soil in Merit solution for 1 minute, and root aphids are gone.

So after 4 months of fighting these buggers, - am confident - have them under control, if not solved.
- used the azatrol drenches, which my roots hated. - lost many plants in veg and flower due to, - believe, the oil holding the roots back from recovery. The azatrol also really only knocked them back for about 5-7 days. Less as time went on.
Pyganic 1.4 at 30 ml/gal drenched really did the trick. Two treatments and - have not seen any in 8 weeks. - am retreating with pyganic to all plants again this week to make sure.
- also did a lot of cleaning, made new mothers from cuts, throwing away equipment that was in trouble spots, and many pyrethrin bug bombs.
- last harvest was VERY weak. These buggers really can be destructive.
- avoided using the dreaded Imid and Spectra products. The pyganic becomes coated to the inside of the pot, keeping the insects from coming back. When - slide the root ball (coco) out of the pot, - can both smell and see that the pyganic sticks around in the pot for a long time.
1 quart set - back $85. Will have gone through 3 quarts after doing this last treatment. So, not too cheap. But, it works.
So, that's the story.
Anyway, - thought - would let you all know a success story. If they come back, - will post to let you all know.
Wish - could get my Apollo11 back. It was the only casualty of this ordeal. Oh well.

.........merit 75 does and did the trick. not sure why people read a post about how to get rid of something, and then just rant about how they are trying everything but the product suggested. I havent had RAs since i did my method.....you know the one this whole post was about. Im sure i sound like a jerk here, but why do i spend my time spreading knowledge when people just want to try everything else. if you want to waste your time, money, and plants, then dont use merit 75.

im using met 52. i think its working, but its tough to know if i am 100% ra free
no flyers, lots of great roots but still some dammaged roots. might not be using enough though, so i have upped it on these next two crops, then im down this summer.
think i am gonna do some pyganic dunks. i hear you almost have to do mulitple methods. pyganic dunks tomorrow

I used 3 products, about $50, and a week later they're gone. I used spectrazide (contact killer), imidicloprid %2 (systemic killer), and an insecticidal soap to clean the roots of the white, waxy substance they leave behind. Merit 75 is %75 imidicloprid

Totally. I spent a grip of cash. I wanted to avoid the Imid. But if they come back, I'll totally bite it and go Merit. Success storys not including Merit are pretty few.

Also, imid is already in my tobacco, food and pets anyway. Seems safe when used how you described.

Didn't mean to jack your thread with my method. Sorry about that. I was so thrilled when those bugs were gone, I would have screamed how I did it in front of a police station with my pants down, haha.

I'm guessing you don't have a problem with chemicals.

If all else fails use some liquid seven. I would only use it once early in veg. There are studies that say it causes cancer. I'm guessing that's about any synthetic pesticide.
