Getting involved in legalization

Has anyone been interested in starting a cannabis related business for when legalization comes? It doesn’t seem like we are at all ready for the ramp up in consumption...I’ve been thinking ideas like grow shop, smoke shop, seed bank, mail order marijuana.

I've given it a little thought...nothing serious tho. I'm not sure what corner I might be able to get in on. I'm not looking to get rich, just have some fun and fill some spare time....

A cannabis-infused brine/rub for smoked salmon....a logo featuring a salmon and a BC Bud will make it a tourist novelty! Not sure how they'll make out at customs tho...lol

Head shop maybe????

I am partial to a seed bank. You cannot grow without starting material. I would like to see the price of seeds come down to a less ridiculous price. My goal is not to make money, but rather to keep good strains going as long as possible.

Yeah I’m thinking multiple routes. Grow equipment, seeds and smoke supplies are all going to be needed on a large scale.

Indoor growing will advance forward but not in all provinces. Seeds will be needed more then grow equipment. Smoke supplies will be needed but are priced much lower.

Opening a shop would be roughly 5-6k for 1st and last rent. I believe hydrofarm and other suppliers give credit if you have a store front. A seed bank would be quite automated with just mailing and doing customer service. A smoke shop might be the most work for most upfront cost. Not sure about MOM as there’s a million now and seeing 100$ ounces is already quite low.

If I’m right with what I’ve heard that suppliers give credit to store fronts a 25-30k investment could get a couple store fronts going. If there making a living now I’m sure it will be sustainable come legalization.

The wife and I are moving up north to a lakefront acreage. We've been floating the idea of building a few cabins and having a cannabis friendly "resort" so to speak. Every cabin is fully stocked with papers/ buster, dab rig and a volcano. Cabin rental comes with a "gift" package of an ounce of my own homegrown, and a gram or 2 of extracts. Come up to relax, swim, kayak, hike and enjoy nature, all in a super open and friendly environment.

Seed company would be great but I saw in those proposed laws that under legalization and not medical, you can't have access to seeds legally. Am I wrong there or did I see that correctly? Yes I know we have tonnes of seed companies already and if the proposed regulations go through, they'll wipe out the seed companies in an instant. Tell me if I am wrong but that's what I thought I read somewhere.

I’m not sure I haven’t even been following it just seeing the headlines.

I seen yesterday Quebec isn’t allowing home grows. I wonder if that will flow over to medical like the rest of the stuff?

I’ve been hearing since MMAR that DG will soon only be allowed in commercial areas...might actually be some weight to that if there hammering home grows like this

Home grows are a part of medical. In BC some doctors group is on the news trying to say no to home grows for legalization and kirk tousaw the lawyer was quick to point out that the federal court has already established a ruling about a medical patient having the right to a home grow or a designated grower and that it should also be applicable to those who fall under the legalization system. But there is an incredible shortage for designated growers and the government wants it that way so the patients in the medical system have to go through an LP. Especially for patients with small scripts. Nobody wants to take those smaller scripts on. That needs to be addressed at some point in the future I'd say.

I'm extremely compassionate to many folks regularity. Big or small.

If there was a legal/legit way to sell seeds my site would already be up and running. There's no provision for growing or selling seeds in the current or future regime. Even existing seed banks are being hassled constantly through the banks/payment systems and they're having to constantly maneuver to accept online payments, bitcoin seems to be the only safe bet but that's so restrictive it's not worth it imo, at least at this time, there's simply not enough market penetration.

Keeping an eye open for legal ways to get in on this but more as a retirement hobby than making huge money. The way they have things locked in right now though, not seeing much opportunity and I won't do it if I'm constantly having to bob & weave with the government, cops, and banks. F*kit.

RE: Quebec home grows. That's strictly rec, they can't refuse medical grows as the Supreme Court has already ruled there, unless there's a case that reverses that, medical grows are good for a while. Looks like in Quebec, anyone who was waiting for the ability to grow in the recreational legalization will have to register through the medical program. Should see a spike in registrations from Quebec in the next few months.

This is fantastic. Best idea yet.

Seems like Newfoundland and BC have the best plans so far from what I can see in reference to how they do the legalization plan. They aren't 100% for sure but they like the dispensary option mixed with other methods of sales. I hope others do the same but I won't hold my breath for central Canada. No wonder they all move out west!

Yeah those provinces seem to be about the best option at the moment. However, production of seeds (or any form of cannabis) will still be illegal federally. So legally, re-sale in some provinces may be an option, as long as it's re-sale of LP produced product(s)

I think that a court challenge is necessary for seeds because it causes medical patients a section 7 violation of our charter.

This rec legalization is Nirvana for lawyers, so many holes and possible challenges. If I were younger I'd consider going into that field and specializing in cannabis related cases! lol
