I just finished the Germination stage.. popped them in the soil and only 1 out of 2 seeds acually turned into a plant... one is abount an inch high.. and the other one isint even out of the ground yet.. is that one just dead?

Give it a little time and see what happens. Some seeds are a little slower at taking off then others.

went to see if they needed some water and noticed that, well, it looks as though one of the roots has had trouble going downwards and has curled upwards and out of the soil... good new is that based on how deep it was planted it must have grown nearly an inch and a half over night...

i guess i'll just leave it see what occurs unless anyone has any ideas...

no life from the other one as yet...

you sure that's not just the sprout? If it really is the root, make sure you're giving enough water to soak through to the bottom of the pot. The roots will grow out in search of water, if water is above the root, it will grow that way. If it's to the sides but not down, they will grow to the side. You need them growing down.

cheers grizz... i'm gonna give it a few days see what occurs... its a good soil with perculite mixed in so drainage should be adequate to get water right the way through... i did give it enough water to moisten all the soil so i'm guessing maybe it moved when it was planted...

I'm gonna see what happens first before i do anything to change it.
Would it be safe to reposition it?

Additionally, when the seed first cracked in germination, I noticed the root had curled out of the seed so was difficult to determine which way was down... basically, I decided that the point where the seed had cracked was down so the root was already partially pointing out to side.

Any ideas?

wait a day. If it comes up with sucker leaves on it, it's a sprout. If it dies, you messed up! Just curious, perculite? Do you mean perlite or vermiculite? Perlite and Vermiculite will both keep your soil from compacting, but vermiculite holds retains ALOT more water and can make it easy to over water. Just a heads up.

ooops... nope its definitely perlite! Can you tell I'm a real newbie? Sorry, I'm a TWAT! It's perlite! Got confused! howlong should it take roughly for them to sprout? and what are the best conditions for the seeds to be in?

Mine are in soil, watered, in a warm dark place...

sorry bro thats wrong , roots shoot downwards as a response to gravity.
