ive had about 10 seeds soaking in a cup for almost 24 hours and i dont see anything going on, they are all sitting on the bottom (not floating)... are the seeds no good or did i do something wrong?

hhahaha !! im not experienced at all but that doesnt seem smart to me.... ur trying to grow them not drown them... as far as i know ur suposed to stick them in a wet paper towl and then put the towl in a plastic bag.... drain the air and let it sit on the window sill for 3+ days till they look like little sperms ( note for future killing weed befor its weed is a sin)

theres nothing about that in growfaq from what ive seen but its ok ive heard soakin for 24 hours has increased somes germination rate. so put them in a damp paper towl an keep them some were dark

it is under the grow faw, under seeds/how do i germinate my seeds
2. Standard Soaking

MATERIALS: Cup/mug (one that retains heat well; i.e. ceramic coffee cup), plate/dish/lid (big enough to cover cup/mug/etc.), warm water.

PROCEDURE:
In this method, the grower places his/her seed(s) in a cup/mug of some sort, which is filled with warm water. I use a ceramic coffee cup - as it is a good conductor of heat - and I cover it with a ceramic plate (again, to prevent heat from escaping, as well as shield seeds from light).

For best results, use water that is a bit warmer than room temperature (again, to compensate for any drop in temperature). It is normal for the seed(s) to float on the surface; just let it/them soak for a while then give it/them a little tap to make it/they sink (the best, most viable seeds will sink to the bottom). Although it is virtually impossible to over-soak seeds using this method, seeds should only be soaked until the taproot has emerged.

CONCLUSION:
Both of these methods are equally effective if executed correctly. Most seeds should show their taproots within 24 hrs., and all seeds should show taproots within 48 hrs. (assuming you are using good, viable seeds).

TIP: (for soil-growers)
If you want to further increase your germination rates, simply plant your seed(s) shallow; approx. 1-2 cm. deep. The seedling(s) should break the soil-surface within 24 hrs., or 48 hrs. for the most (again, assuming you are using good viable seeds – otherwise, it may take another day or two). Once the seedling(s) has/have sprouted, add a little extra soil at the base of the stem(s) for additional support and root-protection. Added on: Monday, March 5, 2007 Viewed: 735 times

i've done it both way and the paper towel method seems to work faster. don't worry sometimes it just takes longer

Man try greming in rockwool. I have had a 100% germ rate so far. (21 out of 21..)
I use a humidity dome and a heating pad to germ my seeds in rockwool. The heating pad you can get at any pet store, and it realy seems to help.

Get them out of the water and into a moist paper towel.

What you're doing is called pre-soaking the seeds to help the germination, they probably won't germ until you put them into a paper towel.

You should remove them from the water once they drop to the bottom - that means they've taken on as much water as they need, you risk them rotting if you leave them in the water any longer.

Seeds can take anywhere between 2-3 days to 3 weeks to germ, so be patient.

So what does this presoaking actually do? Does it increase how fast they seed after you put them in a towel? Or does soaking them make them have a greater chance to germinate after you put them in the towel. So far to my understanding it doesnt seem very important to do this.

you should always hatch in tissue you risk the seeds becomeing soggy and un hatchable if you soak to long!!

They should not be soaked in water to germinate. They will fill with water and go rotten. Try the paper towel method. This works the best.

6 of the 10 have already cracked and grown a tail out of them since ive put them into the paper towel... guess the pre soak worked alright.

ok next question is: i have the 6 germinated seeds in individual cups of soil, do i need to put any water in these at all or is there enough moisture in the soil for the roots to start growing on there own?
