Germination issue Lol

I always drop a seed into a shot glass for 4-6 hours before planting. Usually a seed will float for a while before it sinks. This seed sunk right away. Odd i think. About 5 hours later i have a brain fart & empty the glass into the sink. Thought nothing of it until a couple of hours later when i go to plant it. Fuck. In the mean time my wife has washed out a casserole dish with hot hot water & dish soap. I figure it's toast but fish it out of the strainer basket & wash it off. Not holding out much hope i placed it on a wet paper towel. 26 hours later.

They are designed to survive wildfires, drought, cold. Seeds aren't as fragile as most people make it seem.
Congrats on not loosing it. Hopefully it's a winner
I'd be more concerned with bacteria in the sink contaminating the seed. I always wash my hands and the area I'm working on with 99% iso and spray the air with Lysol.
It's not like growing shrooms ..... You don't NEED to be sterile but it certainly doesn't hurt anything and can def help with older seeds.

Not sure on its legitimacy but ive heard if they sink right away its likely a non viable seed. Idk….
Ive always been under that assumption...
If they don't sink they won't sprout no matter what. Ive always attributed a sinking seed with a fast sprout but I dunno.....?
Dont know if there is any legitimacy behind those statements or maybe just some home grower voodoo. Lol

90% of the seeds I've sown were soaked first. Started just planting them raw dog, and honestly I think it's a better method. Less chance for fuckery with the root etc.
There's also the argument the seed has stored bacteria and enzymes that the mother and environment passed down.... Moving it from place to place eliminates most of those.... Guess there's good arguments on both sides of the fence. I always say do whatever works for you. If you're getting 90% or above you're doing something right, so just keep doing it.

Been a outdoor hobby grower for 20+ years. Last year the grasshoppers munched on my plants pretty good. Grrr. Christmas was good to me. Full setup 32 x32 tent. While planting 2 for the first run, only 1 sprouted Jan 8th . Not wanting only 1 plant i was playing catch up. Next up a Critical Magic. This seed also sunk right off the batt. It did sprout, but tail was slow growing & planted anyway. So went for a third. Mighty Grape freebie. Results as above. I always pre soak my seeds 4-6 hours in which time they usually sink. Still amazed the seed was still viable after soaking for 4 hours, then a very hot soapy wash.

Always plant more then you need and cull the lesser.
Never count on anything! Learned that as an outdoor grower too. Mother nature can be giving, but she will take as well. Never know how it'll be until it is....

As i said, first time in a tent. Only grow feminized seeds. I want to make sure i have no issues. No need to plant extra & throw away money.

BOG passed away a couple years ago so it's a reproduction run for seeds. Going well so far. Should be able to collect a ton of pollen and make many seeds.
