Germination help..Anyone?

Ok, for all you experienced outdoor folks. What's the best way to germinate? I'm using the guerrilla method and I just dropped them into soil+mix added a little bit of water and then left alone. I'm asking for future reference. So come next year around planting time I can either have feminised seeds from a seed bank or have a good bg seed germinated.

I wrap mine in a white paper towel add enough water to dapen the towel and put in an open glass jar.The jar then goes into the closet(or another dark area) for about 2 days. Good luck

this is prolly your best method .. or if u just have a shit load of bagseed u could always throw them in a glass of water in a dark place .. but i wouldent do that with good seeds..

According to a lot of seed companies, they prefer you to not use the paper towel or cup of water, although Ive been using paper towel method for a while.

They prefer you drop the seed directly into the substrate (soil, rockwool, plug, or whatever you are going to be growing in. The reason they give is that the taproot that sprouts is easily damaged on a microscopic level. The taproot will have tiny hairs that will stick to the paper towel and be damaged when you remove it, even though it looks fine.

I was skeptical of this so I did a little experiment recently and heres what my results were:

First its worth noting that germinating in temperatures ranging of 65 - 78 degrees, 50% success, ten days time......In temps 81 - 88 degrees 100% in two days! Most germination kits also have a heating pad so dont let your temps drop below about 78.

I planted six bagseeds each in the 81 - 88 degree temps, in to soil, paper towel, and an aerogarden peat plug. Not only did all of them sprout within 2 - 3 days, but the ones directly in the soil sprouted fastest (all within 40 hours) and are growing the fastest.

The biggest find in my experiment was the temperature. I did all this cause I was having trouble germing inside, then used the garage and its all good. Dark and warm, thats the most important factor.

i just get a plate, wet 2 paper towels and put them on the plate. then put seeds inbetween each piece, and find a bowl big enough to cover all of the seeds on the plate. this helps keep moisture in, hence keeping the paper towel wet... then just put that dome-looking contraption in the closet and wait for your babies to grow some white tails :)

put them under a humidity dome, and they'll crack in 2-3 days easily!

Ok, well I have some good bag seeds I got sitting here. The first 3 I have experimented with I put straight into soil without germination. Only been almost 3 days total time, but patience is a virtue that I do have lol. So, I can try both methods and see which one works best. I tried the straight into the soil method about a month ago and they sprouted up so pretty but when I brought inside they turned yellow and died. I don't have a(n) indoor set-up so I chose to grow outdoors. Thanks to everyone who responded.
