My problem germinated 10 seeds 8 cracked planted them very carefully.
3 of my seeds looking good getting first real leaves the other 5 nothing. Left few more days still nothing so decided to carefully check progress seed, when I dug up all were the same tap root wrapped around seed and dead.
What am I doing wrong !!!!

IMO of course there should be no "digging" to recover the seed that is not sprouting. When I plant my germinated seeds the sprout is about 1/2" under the soil but the seed is very close to the top of the dirt. I only brush a small amount of dirt over the seed. How much water are you giving it?

Mr Bubbles,
thanks for the response I planted the seeds about a 1/4 to 1/2 in.
down then sprayed with water bottle a couple times a daily.
Funny 3 were perfect and other 5 would not sprout at all. They are in the same medium (peet pods) and water(well). Am I planting to deep or watering to much any suggestion would be much appreciated.

not every seed sprouts nor does every seed sprout at the same time. some take less than a day - others take over a week. most take 2-4 days.

I am huge noob so take what I say lightly. It sounds like too much water to me. Granted if you are in very small cups/pots you may need to water more but not multiple times each day. My starter pots are roughly 5x5x7 deep. I water completly through the medium and an hour later place the germinated seeds in the soil. The next water is usually 3-4 days later when the plants have sprouted.

I dont know how I feel about the spraying, odds are you just getting the top of the soil wet anyway.

If you are buying seeds from bank you have a problem but if you are using bagseed its not uncommon to sprout fewer.

To be honest when check seeds the top seemed wetter then the soil around seed. I am thinking you are right needed life jackets, an old fellow like myself should know better long time since I try this alittle to excited I guess.

Email468,
Thanks for reply, I relize not all seeds will sprout these seeds were in ground 8 days I am thinking Mr Bubbles could be right maybe to much water live and learn.

Just put another 6 seeds in will try luck again.

Are you germinating the seeds prior to placing them in soil?

First time germinated in cup of water tap root came out I planted them very carefully with not the greatest luck.
This time I planted 3 direct to soil and paper towel method for 3.
I also checked with lowlife he seems to think soil may be to acidic or I contaminated seeds I am guessing I might have screwed everything up, if there is a way I can usually find it.
I will say again thanks for your help looks like I might need alot of it and a brain that works.:joint::confused:
