Germinated seed in paper towel lost it's outer casing

Hey everyone, I've just germinated a seed in paper towels and possibly left it too long because the root is about an inch long and when I tried to put it in the soil the seed casing came off. I didn't know what to do so I've put them into the soil normally, just covering it up with a centimeter of loose moist soil. Will my seed make it do you think? Does the root need the seed casing to be able to push up out of the soil? At the moment the cotylon leaves are exposed and under the soil, is this alright? Would it be better to have those leaves just on top of the soil, and the rest of the root underneath?

If the seed casing is off then i'd have thought you'd want the cotylons above the surface and recieving light. As you say, it seems that normally the sprout will grow up using the seed casing as it's shovel, and then it'll fall off one it's out in the open.

Here's an update, I put the soil up to the leaves and now it's growing, I can see the stem now, it's growing slightly crooked at the moment but I'm hesitant to correct it this early, but so far so good!

I had the same thing go on with my plant...hope yours is doing better then mine :/

that's why you shouldn't germinate in paper towels...

put the seed straight in soil, it will do its job.
