Genetically Modified Cannabis?***=0***

All I EVER hear about on ANY site or forum or seed site is this was crossed with that. I was wondering.... has there been any kind of marijuana plant that has been genetically modified, that is... not a hybrid. Genetically modified implies that the genes from one organism have been spliced into the genes of another. Are we playing god with this technology? Or would we get God Bud? Maybe a plant that can withstand strong freezes? Has anyone done it (Lowrider Strain)? Is this an idea that is looked down upon in the stoner culture :-?? Am I asking the wrong questions and soon be brought in by the man? I understand marijuana is illegal in the US where a majority of this kind of research is done :peace:. What do you think??? ....and where can I get some?

looking back at this i realize that my comparison of the lowryder strain and genetically modified cannabis has no backing. Ruderalis is a distinct characteristic that was breed with more potent pot strains to get the thc levels back where they should be. I do still think that it's possible for cannabis to be genticaly modified and that it should be looked into... like corn has been for years now.

Hi guys first post, been lerkin' here for a few months and learned alot so thanks for all the great info everyone.

Anyway, what we have is mixing strains of cannabis to produce the desired results. This is not genetic modification. This is selctive breeding and has been going on for thousands of years with many diffrent animals and plants.

Genetic modification or geneticly enginered plants and animals do exist and the scientists say its perfectly safe, but they say alot of things. They have crossed Goat with spider, monkey with jellyfish and potato with cockroach amungst other things.

I feel this is playing God, I just don't think we are ready to be fooling around with such things. They could cause alergic reactions and pollen is hard to control. Such as Aventis' Starlink corn which was never intended for human consumption and yet the strain has spread and contaminated the worlds corn supply. Even after they destroyed the GE corn (GE = Geneticly enginered). I just don't think these guys know as much as they think they do. Just because we can do a thing does not nessisaraly mean we must do a thing.

That being said there is alot we can learn from GE plants and animals. I just don't think we need to be to hasty.

maybe they could use that stem cell research shit on pot? is that even possible? im fucking stoned man im trying to think of how to do this. I love kush

so you are basically asking if tere has been a weed plant that has had it's gene's changed or altered to make it do desired things? i def. believe there is some of that going around in labratories, do u guys kno what love bugs are? they were a genetically engineered bug that wuz made in a university of florida lab and now are all over florida in the spring, so i kind of think it is playing god and we have to be careful b4 we end up crossing weed with our overused ipod and it takes over the world............

one genetic engineering i would be intersted in would be changing the characteristics of tryhomes to act as spores (like shrooms), so we could grow 100 THC plants! (patent pending)

I love Kush too!... My opinion is that marijuana is a beautiful plant and is fine the way it is. I know a Kush man will understand.

saw a show the other day on discovery about them bringing back the dinosaours with today technologie, they have allready figures out how to genetically modify an ostrage into a feloca raptor .. i was trippin ,fuck have we came along way, think how fast technologie is going and the future!

they can do amazing things with weed if they wanted too..

Wow thanks everyone for your responses and insight. Like the GE corn, I'm not sure if cannabis is ready to be genetically engineered. Although pot plants that secrete spores would be cool I doubt we'll see it any time soon lol.

I was thinking more along the lines of making a pot plant with a woody stem so we don't have to keep using things to hold up our dank buds! That'd be nice.

A good start would be to separate it's genetic code, remove non-essential strains of dna, and replace them with similar dna that will boost the innate properties of the THC. Then, we could truly have a plant that would let us see the face of God or pass out after one toke.

Old thread but, @smartsoverambition Lovebug being genetically engineered is a myth from what I read, but yeah we obviously are playing God now... Mixing spider genes with a goat, and they mix insect genes with plants... Genetically modified garbage.

"playing god" is a meaningless statement, everything evolved, nothing was "created". you still cannot "create" something but alter what is already alive and existing. jeez, if people understand human evolution, plant evolution is a simple task. since the sciences and technology that renders Genetic modification possible is fully oblivious to these what-ifs questions about morality. there are no hindrances aside from ignorance . Genetic modification is probably the best thing humans could have discovered, we could rid innumerable disease and abnormalities through it. removing genes that cause disorders from a sperm, then using the rest of the genetics would guarantee safe and healthy offspring if the research was thorough the sky is the limit. odds are if you do too much Genetic modification you will end up with sterile offspring.

It's one thing to fix genes that are mutated (even though I think they are mutated for a reason, except for radiation exposure etc.).... It is another thing to combine genes of an animal or insect with genes of each other or of a plant.

There are a lot of side effects of genetic modification that go beyond the original goal (it offsets the chemical production, from what I heard genetically modified soybeans are terrible for you compared to natural one's and the worlds supply is 70% genetically modified.

I don't necessarily believe in Evolution, I don't believe in Darwin's theory I think it is B.S.

We didn't just come from fish then grow into monkeys then turn into humans, someone or something created our d.n.a.

As for marijuana... Breeding is natural and I believe that is how they get all the strains, mother nature won't allow it to happen if it's not compatible.
