question GB. Your not gonna vent those hoods ? If not why didn't you get bat wings or hang vertical ?
You got me thinking ! I have to run my AC ( compressor doesn't come on much though) anyways so was thinking of removing the glass for more Par but is it worth taking my hoods apart. Just thinking.

The Flower room is 7x18.5', the plant area is about 5x18. Right now I have 3 rows of 13 for 39 plants, just because that's how many clones I had.
My Veg room is 7x20. I would have made each room 8x20 if I had the right space, but such is life...
Next run I plan on SOG 5 rows of 18 plants.
Almost the same as my room but I have two sides at 5 x 10 or 9 rows 3 deep a side for a total of 36 sites , 2 K over each side.. My vegg room is megar at 3 x 11, I need more room but the wife wont give me another bedroom. so I can really only vegg up 18 sites at a time with out vegging in the flower room. I think that's ok though cause it gives me time to harvest one side and clean it at a time instead of both.

After a bit of research, I found that dirty glass and air cooling your bulb reduces its full potential... That's some of the logic behind the new gavitas/epap/nano designs.
The reason I bought these, is because I buy used and cheap :P and they have easy on/off hinges. I saved the glass bottoms just incase I want to resell these hoods later, but I won't be putting them back on for growing.

Soaking this up too. I'm only running 1200 watts this first round, but will double that next run around April 1, then sometime around July 4, double again. We have a kickass state program for helping pay for solar power, to go along with the Federal incentives and my next door neighbor just so happens to own a regional solar installation business!!! He does installs in four states. So, before jumping to next level beyond that in the fall and going with 10K, I'm going to install solar to compliment the grid. I've got a 15 X 30 shop to work with and will use just about all of it. The power consumption getting me busted is my main concern.

My point with all that? I like the way you set up bro and would rather follow you than wade through another few hundred hours of reading like I already have, lol. Going to be a 100% organic, no-till in 20 gallon totes. Love those you are using, btw. Awesome job!

Anyway, I have read about par loss from dirty tubes and I clean the hell out of mine before use, but can slowly see some buildup of dust on the interior. I can't help but think that par loss over 10K watts would be pretty damn significant. However, I'm currently growing in an 8 X 4 tent until warmer weather and can setup shop properly, so tubes a must.

There Is truth to that the argument. However the pro for aircooling is you can drop the lights 12-18 inches from the canopy versus the 3 ft recommended for gavitas. Thus negating that effect. I sided with going with non air cooled hoods- adjust a wings first and now gavitas.

Air cooling equals smaller canopy.
with open overlapping lights you can easily light up a 5x5 area...
with an air cooled at 12 inches away, that's only light spread of 3x3, maybe 4x4.
