Gavitas Lights: How Far From My Plants?

Hey guys Well I am about to jump my plants into my flowering room in the next few dayz. I bought 2 Gavitas Pro 1000 at my local shop and the guy told me just to set em up and leave them there until harvest. SO I ask him "don't I have to lower the lights and as they grow rise the lights up?" He is like not with the Gavitas. But I read somewhere that thye gavitas should be at around 36" from the top of the plants.

What is your take on this guys.

Sounds reasonalbe for a 1000 watt. Is your hand warm at 36" ? IF not you could go a bit closer. I have a 300 watt and it is at 16" for a 4X4 foot print. Email the manufacture http://www.gavita-holland.com/index.php/contact.html to get the best help.

hope you have ac. my son has 4 600w gavita and temps were in the 90's till he got an air conditioner. They are hot because they are not air cooled and the ballast is attached. but good lights.. just not for me.

i was looking at gavitas on e-bay, nice prices. i don't see how the gavitas would be different from other ballasts though. i use air cooled hoods and like to keep them as close as i can to the canopy tops. i don't see how you could just leave them at one height for the entire grow. anyone have any experience with 1000 watt gavitas? are they any different than other electronic ballasts???

Check out that video. That is the only "experience" I have with gavitas, seeing that video when doing a search on shackzilla grow reports.

Check out the lights.

i saw that the lights stayed in one place. but i also noticed the internodal spacing was pretty big. i like my nodes nice and tight. i also noticed the plants (although they looked great) only really produced large mail colas, and the lower buds didn't really produce as much as they could/should have. i think he would have done much better if he moved the light down closer to the plants, and did some tying down.

Yeah, well it was just a quick grow log to show what the plants he breeds are like. No training only gives one big main cola. Plus he pretty much had them stuffed in there. For the size tent, I am pretty sure he knocked down a heavy weight. Either way, that is the only time I have ever seen gavitas in use.

Someone gotta have answer I'm about to invest in couple. I've heard same thing hang it high leave it there.

get a thermometer with a wired remote sensing end, and put that end about 5cm from the tops of your plant, and leave it there for a full day, then check the max temp, and see where it is, it's CRUCIAL to get as close as you can to the lamp, without the plant getting damaged, if you get a light detector(forget what they are called, measures lumens) and see what the light output is, you'll see a HUGE difference when the plants get further away from the lamp, I know this sounds really rudimentary and simple, but it's very important. Even 10-15cms makes a WORLD of difference on the lumen output, another thing to remember is to clean your reflector often, a dusty sheet of glass or dusty aluminum backing ABSORBS lumens, every lumen counts!
this is why i'm a firm believer in using new bulbs, and clean reflectors, even the damn BULB gets dirty.
