Purple, then waxy skins like Yukon Gold. Russets are not worth wasting time and money growing. Too cheap at the stores.
I’ve got some organic seed last year a Red and Yukon variety. I can’t find the cards now so not exactly sure variety. I’m not liking how the reds are storing so I’m with ya. Will look at some purps!

I worked on a farm in southern Colorado. Potatoes and grain. My last year there we harvested and shipped over 2.75 million pounds of potatoes.

Don't grow in the ground. Instead use a container with adequate drainage and lay straw in the bottom. Place seed spud in the middle and cover with a bit more straw. As vines grow out keep adding straw. Once the vines die just empty the container. Clean spuds. Ready to use with a little washing.

I’ve seen that method and sounds fun. I just need adequate containers.
If the seed can’t freeze I’m probably screwed. Above 40F they’ll sprout no?

Pretty much. Our seed spud bin stayed around 40. In the dark totally. Last year I used 20 gallon grow bags. Works like a dream.

Well I do have a beer fridge I *might* be able to get that cold without freezing. I was hoping they’d ride out in an outdoor shed. Might have just saved my spuds! If I lost them you know it was all just for learning but I want a self sustaining crop eventually. Kick ass help thank you!!

And Happy year to the rollitup crew!
