Galaxy 600 hps does not light with timer

A strange issue with the galaxy 600 hps ballast.

When connected to a timed power strip, one ballast will not light up. If unplugged where power supply meets the balast and then replugged in it lights right up.
For some reason it just wont light up with a timer when the timer hits on.
Moved another ballast in to it's place and it works just fine. So tried the ballast with the issue in another outlet on the power strip, same thing. Then tried a different timer, same thing.

Anyone know what would cause this, or had this problem?

It's not the timer. A different ballast was put in the same timer, working fine.

For this setup, a timer + timed power strip works great. There are some unusual hurdles with this place.
Am using a lighting controller on another setup, but the results in the end are the same.

Yeah. Will call the manufacturer.
Help on here is about like trying to hire new employees on craigslist, which am also doing today.

Monday blows, thanks for the response.

are you using a relay/contactor ? sounds like thats the problem to me you gotta have a relay/contactor plugged into the ballast and timer otherwise when the timer clicks on it malfunctions ..... if youve got one then maybe the timer isnt letting enough power be pulled through it for that kind of ballast you have for that light? not sure... I guess the first question would be, has it ever worked with that or any other timer? Are you using a hortilux Eye bulb? Having only bought 1 digital ballast (previously having 2 magnetic) I'm not a fan of digi ballasts.

I have a 400w Phantom that would never work right, finally it worked for 3 consecutive days but than I unplugged it. never to work again. My problem was solved with a $25 bulb, turns out Hortilux bulbs don't always like digi ballasts, been running that Sylvania HPS bulb for a month now. I was using a hortilux mh.

hortilux are great bulbs, but above is right, they do not work good in digital. i have 1000w phantoms and the ushio bulbs work perfect. but your problem does not sound like a bulb issue, i think bad ballast.

Thanks for the replies.

The ballast has worked with other timers as well as with powerbox lighting controller.

The bulb used is a cheapo 600hps bulb. I forget the name, but it is the same bulb that the other galxy 600s are lighting up fine.

I looked into the relay/contactor. I am going to look into it a little more.

The shop it was purchased from opens up again tommorrow. I think I will take it in. Just a bad ballast maybe. It is the first time I have had an issue with any of the galaxy 600s. It was bound to happen.
