Future of LED Lights

Just read an interesting article about the cause of the LED efficiency droop being revealed. The "LED efficiency droop" is a term used to describe the drop in light when higher wattages are introduced. This is why for the moment, we only have 3W LED's. The discovery for the reason for this droop might be the next big breakthrough for LED lighting technology.

Here's a link to the article for anyone who wants to check it out: http://www.eurekalert.org/pub_releases/2013-04/uoc--col042213.php

Sounds pretty cool.

I wonder how this would translate for us growers, though. It mentions LED efficiency at higher wattages, but not LED efficiency as a whole. So, let's say a 30W chip was produced. Would this be any more efficient (or cheaper) than ten 3W LED's? I won't hold my breath, but definitely interesting. Thanks for the heads up.
