Hey all, it's been forever since I've had any problems but I am really scared and worried! This is my 7th grow (white berry/Ak-47/strawberry cough/mataro blue) in DWC using 5gallon buckets, canna aqua nutes in a tent on my indoor porch w/Co2 (giving all details in case I'm doing something to help these things thrive!) I've had a couple mites come in from time to time cause I have a dog and 2 cats but I just hit em once with mighty wash and those fuckers are gone but anyway...My girls are in their 3rd week of flowering and I just checked to see if they needed a drink and there are little gnats flying all around my root zone on my most beautiful, biggest AK-47! I thought maybe root aphids because they are on the root zone too, but they look like mini gnats. The water level was quite low and the upper part of the root that was half dry was where these horrible bastards were at. I am going to grab some yellow pest strips first thing in the morning but besides that what can I do to help this? I've never seen anything like this and I don't want to do anything crazy with chemicals but I need some advice please! Thanks for listening =)

Sorry guys I did already post this in the plant problems forum but I didn't know if the cure was different since I don't grow in soil. Any help is very appreciated!! =)

are they little mite looking things on your roots or larva? mite=root aphids= pain in the ass= weekly treatment till harvest. root aphids require serious chemicals to rid. azamax and the like just knock them back, they never get eradicated. bayer tree and shrub or spectracide are your answers, but you cant use them in flower. you need at least 60 days for that shit to clear out of the plants system.

if its fungus gnats just do a root dunk with neem or sm 90 or mosquito dunks or a million other things................................just do it multiple times over the next couple weeks.

pyganic, expensive as can be and there are other alternatives but they most likely contain one chemical which leaves them unable to use the totally organic hype. I just dropped 180 bux on a quart of pyganic ec 5 because I saw a couple root aphids running around in my soil, one treatment later and I find nothing. I was told I can use the pyganic in hydro too but as of yet haven't had the chance or need. Pyrethrum based insecticide is made from a chrysanthemum extract and evaporates with no residue in 12 hours or so.

D.E. powder, or Diatomaceous Earth is great for any insects. Very safe too, you can feed it to your pets. Tanlin from CX Hydroponics works well too.

Thanks everyone, it's gnats for sure, they are flying around the base of the plant. I have dunked the roots in a peroxide water mix to kill any larvae and got some sticky yellow pest strips and it's worked so far! There's a shit ton of them stuck to the strips, a lot more than I thought was in there, those fuckers multiply fast..little bastards. Does anyone know how you get these things? I've been growing on the same porch, using the same equipment, keeping everything clean between harvests and I haven't changed anything. Only thing I can think of is a friend gave me a potted Thai plant that sat on the porch for like 2 days...maybe they came from that?
