FUNGUS GNATS! need remedy

Coming into the fourth week of my beautiful girls I have noticed a few and trust me when i say very few little black bugs presumably the bastards known as fungus gnats I have heard all kinds of remedies for these guys but I need one that really works I understand bugs will pop up where there are plants. Although, I would like to start implementing somthing in them now to prevent what could be an aweful result any way all responses welcome preferably from experience growers who have tried and succeeded their remedy. thanks.

Home Depot sells 50 lb bags of playground sand for $5. Can be used as a top dress for your soil. 1/2- 1 inch deep I have used it to break a bad FG population. Also try grinding up a few mosquito dunks onto top of soil and break mosquito dunks into thirds and wedge a chunk into each drain hole on your pots - assuming your in soil. And lots of sticky traps for adult flyers. Just a few tips. Good luck.

Layer of perlite 1-2" thick on the bottom of your container covering your drain holes. 1-2" layer of perlite on the top of the soil.
You encapsulate your soil. Bugs won't crawl through the perlite.
If you use sand. Use it in the bottom of the container covering the drain holes, and on top the soil.

Good Luck on Your Grow.

Excellent, thanks guys I will try these out. right now I have them in a 50/50 aeration slacker/perlite mixture so I have a lot of drainage for these plants sirsteeley. I actually have no clue how these sneaky bastards got in there but hopefully this will help.

I can personally vouch for gnat nix. I've been battling them off & on. As long as you don't let them get out of control there easy to get rid of. I've found a multi-approach works best using something on the top as a dressing, gnatrol & sticky traps/a neem oil spray.

I personally think that gnat nix is the most effective. It's like sand, but made from recycled glass. It stays in place very well, is easy to water with, & works very efficiently. Just make sure to cover the drain holes as well or the little fuckers will just fly down there. Best of luck bro!

oh & also, a glass of red wine will attract them and works well as a trap. Satisfying to see them dive in & die!

ive also tried de powder which seems to work pretty well, but makes it a pain in the ass to water. I am going to start using it as a prevenative buried 1/2" under the top layer of soil. I also helps to have it sprinkled on the floor & in entry ways. When they try to hop from plant to plant it cuts them up & you get I watch them die!!
one thing iI've heard but have never tried is cutting a potatoes slice & putting it on the soil. The larvae will attach & feed to it. You can then through it out every 24-48hrs (cant remember exactly)
