ok so i have a wick system and an uncovered reservoir. i also have a white snot like fungus that grows around the edges of my res and around the wicks themselves. i was hoping that someone could tell me what it is and how to stop it if possible at all. i already know that it is due to my uncovered res. my next set up i do not plan on having an uncovered res again. thank you for checking this out and for any advice you might have.:joint:

The white snot is an algae. not only do you have to cover the res, but you need to block any light from getting in. also keep the temps no higher than 72 degrees in the water. 65 is good. Alot of people use peroxide, but it didnt work well for me. I found Algae Destroyer at wal-mart in the pet department at the fish supplies. it is for fish and live plants and has not hurt my plant at all. I would start with a clean res and if you dont have any air pumps with air stones in the res, I would add that to your system. It will keep the water and nutes mixed and also fights algae.

thank you very much for the info man very helpful. i'll def try the algae destroyer and i use a black contractor bag as a res lining so everytime i change my nute solution i just put a new bag in and the algae goes in the trash.
