If grandma tried regulating what went on in MY house..hell ya i would, and she's 88. I have friends with young kids, they know i will spark up in front of them if they are at my house, pull out a pipe, bong, whatever. My house, I want to smoke I'm not hiding in the basement because you want to "protect?" your children from..what exactly? Yeah , I can be an A hole, product of my environment, if you aren't you get walked all over.
Another pet peeve is vegetarian friends who come over and then bitch when i throw a steak on the grill...like i wouldn't cook steak because it offends them..pfft!

What's wrong with smoking around kids? When you try to hide it, it becomes a taboo thing, not something which we should openly acknowledge and teach about. I've seen both scenarios, people who brought kids up around drugs/alcohol like it wasn't a big deal and people who hid it from their kids...guess which kids handled drugs/drinking better as they got older? And when I'm not in my house I respect other people, more than most people do. I'll put myself out to accommodate almost anyone. But not in my house, that's one of the big advantages to having someplace of your own, you can live freely to your standards without having to be influenced by societal customs. I pray i get to breed alot but not actually reproduce.

A for effort! Now please understand that exposing children to adult entertainment is wrong. My dad hide his adult activities. .I am 32...great job..no kids..dept or real issues..my aunt shoved her habits in my cousin's face...guess who is single with a kid living off walfare. ..not me. But my cousin tells me how lucky I was...she knows growing up around drugs and alcohol messed her up...she was even raped by her mom's dealer at 19...pregnant she had an abortion and moved a province away...she had no chance ...I blame her mom.

I understand where your coming from. It's really about the total environment. I know people who were brought up around drugs and alcohol as a daily part of life and were taught about it..they turned out fine, i know others who were brought up around it in a constant party type environment, they are pretty messed up, i also know people who were totally sheltered from that lifestyle and those people don't seem to do as well when exposed to it. I personally see smoking and drinking to be on the same level, as far as recreational purposes and I'm not going to hide my drinking, so why would i hide smoking? I'm talking about it as an everyday activity, just like having a cup of coffee or a beer. It's the things we try to hide from children that will interest them the most, and if we don't educate them properly they are going to ( possibly) get bad info from not reputable sources.
Most of my daily smoking is for medicinal uses anyway and I've explained that to my friends, and a few of them have actually talked to their kids about that aspect of it. Education will always trump deception.
