Hey guys!
Im very excited to be making this post after spending time learning from, and admiring, the work of all ya'll. I wanted to take a (not so)quick second to introduce myself before I start my grow journal, which will be starting as soon as i finish collecting the rest of my necessities. I am Otis aka The Otis aka LaOtis. LaOtis Ball. The missing 4th member of the Ball family (basketball joke). Here's where I'm at:
I have a sideline business where I purchase products at auction and resell them locally. This journey, while some could argue started 16 years ago on the side of my best friends house, truly began a month ago with stumbling on an AC Infinity T6. The profit margin was looking sweet but upon further research I noticed it being purposed in the world of cannabis cultivation.
I have a cousin, whom will be referred to as Girth Quake throughout my posts, who moved here from Orange County. He had mentioned before his underlying interest in growing some beautiful ladies, so I suggested he purchase, at nominal profits , my newest acquisition. Fast forward 30 minutes and young Girth is already at Home Depot buying PVC.
While some may love the enthusiasm, I was turned off by the hastiness(even what I'm doing right now is still extremely hasty to me). He returned with enough 1/2” PVC to make a small 2x2x2’ situation. The next day a Chinese ‘1000watt’ burple light showed up at our doorstep. I could no longer idly stand by and allow this mockery to continue, especially if i wanted to feel part of the process. I put on my blonde wig and jumped down the rabbit hole like a young Alice.
Researching light, and subsequently lights, is what brought me to RIU. For a little over a month I've jumped between here, THCFarmer, Dude Grows and a plethora of random forums, seriously averaging a few hours a day. Learned a lot from the @Flatrate Farms grow, and he inspired me indirectly in many ways to dive off the deep end. The content of the conversations in that thread sold me on this being a community I'd want to join.
Onto grow.
I’ve gone back and forth and forth and back on just about every aspect of how I should execute my first grow attempt. I am fortunate to have a lot of space in my house, so I planned on saving up to purchase an 8’x4’x7’ with Timber grow lights and do it big in my basement! I planned on starting with a Redwood VS, utilizing only half the tent, and expanding with time.
Cue auction life!!
I stumbled on a Bloom Plus LED at auction that lead me to the idea of starting with my 3’6”x3’8”x8’1” bedroom closet while I spread out my spending and also wait for the potential Timber build to get here! I figured based on lead times it would take a little under a month to purchase and acquire a Timber Redwood VS(emailed Dan about it today), I could get started utilizing the Bloom and then turn my closet into a veg room.
Next post will have a breakdown of what i have/am purchasing. If you guys see any red flags or want to make suggestions please jump right in. I'll be finalizing a lot of these things by next week.
Happy Learning
