Iv got three plants ready to flower they have been in veg for 4-6 weeks on 125W CFL (24-0) i was thinking just reduce 22-2, 20-4, every other day and so on until we reach 12-12 to flower under a 125W red cfl should i do this or has anybody got any suggestions? Thanks :D

u can just put em straight to 12/12 no issues, ive done it every grow, it will induce flowering if not already started, and i also veg 24/0

Under CFL's they NEED the 24/0 due to the lack of light intensity... all you do by the lowered light phases is slow the growth process and possibly make them stretch...

Because indoor growing forces the plants to flower in such a short period (instead of over an entire season) the sudden switch to 12/12 is what forces the chemical change and the start of bloom....

if they were under HID's.. it would be ok.... but not ideal..... 18/6 is the usual if not 24/0

go straight into 12/12 to get the hormones pumping. they are going to be a little stressed going from 24/0, but theyll be fine.

I go 24 to 12 ALL the time.. it is my recipe for success for the way I grow.. everyone else's own mileage may vary.

24/0 is only good with cfl like buddy said with hid's u should give ur girls at least 4 hours of restc a night to let the roots develope proper

24/0 is too much stress. even thought the plant cannot produce glucose without light energy, it still releases growth factors and other hormones during the dark cycle.

That is fiction not fact. There is no evidence to back up that claim anywhere.

No it's not, that whole dark cycle crap is misunderstood. C3 plants don't require darkness like C4 because their "dark period" often happens during the daytime. It's complicated and I don't feel like explaining.

i understand how photosystems 2 and 1 work, along with the calvin cycle. i also understand how c3 (majority of plants) c4 (corn, grasses etc.) and cam (cacti, pineapples etc.) plants fixate carbon.

you are right in saying that the plants require light to produce energy, but during the lights out period, they produce growth factors, which is why blooming works the way it does.

during photosystems 2 and 1, atp and nadph are created from h2o and light energy, and oxygen is released as a waste product. then, during the calvin cycle, this energy, along with 6co2 are turned into glucose. the cavlin cycle only operates when the lights are on, despite being dubbed the "dark reaction phase".

this doesnt mean that processes dont happen during the dark. hormones are released which promote plant health.

i can upload some notes if youd like.

No, I've read enough about that crap to last 2 life times. All 3 stages can happen during light on hours. Plants don't need a "rest" to promote health or root growth. The only necessity for dark is when it's flowering. There was a guy on a forum, I'm thinking 420mag who took clones and vegged one under 24/0 and the other under 18/0. The 24/0 was ~3 times larger.
