Its been years since I have thought about buying seed. Several years ago before I worked in larger scale grow programs, I spent a few years just stock piling seed. Utilizing this forum as well as others to locate the best I could find as well as some that I just simply wanted to try. I started my collecting in 2011-2014 and made it a point to only ever buy regular seeds (No fem, no auto). Back then everything had the "Regular" option and I am so glad I collected what I did when I did because I am noticing seed going to only fem options, save a few select banks. Call me a purist if you like, but I only ever prefer regular. Mainly because I am that guy that will take 5 beans, turn them into 500 and start crossing them with other things just because that's my version of fun. Genetics and breeding are my main interest when growing. Oh sure I love the finished product and the beauty of the plants, but breeding and crossing genetics is what fills my daydreams when I should be working.
Anywho, I made it a point to store these seeds properly and did so with tins, brown rice, vials and a freezer. These seeds have been sitting in the ice box for about 6 years or more. I stopped growing once my first child was born and stored all my genetics away until recently. I have been wanting to make more seed out of some of the strains I had stored up since I could not currently grow on a larger scale for anything more than some personal smoke and seed. So I decided to start off with some of my lesser valued, but still appreciated strains, just to get my head back into it. I had 10 KC Brains Mango beans that were some of my oldest, 6+ years in brown rice in the freezer and every single one of them sprouted! If I have a 100% germ rate after 6= years in a freezer, I am wiling to bet properly stored seed can out live you and your whole family lineage! Seeing the the genetic landscape of cannabis changing more and more every year makes me appreciate my seed bank as well as wanting to add to the pool.
I would love to share all my old genetics and the process of germinating and breeding them. Its been awhile since I have been on the forums, would it be ok to use this thread for that purpose or do mods prefer I use the journals for that?
