The middle east is socially behind the times. Not really much of a newsflash there. Don't feel too bad about it though, so is the bible belt, but that's what happens when people and religion mix; everyone thinks they're special. In Israel's case, they think they're extra special as the chosen people. That's basically ethnic superiority baked in, which....is the definition of racism. The way "anti-Semite" is thrown around, there might be some bigotry projection in there.
