It used to be the best soil out there and now it fucking sucks. It drains all the water you pour in it instantly and you have to water your plants every day with it regardless of how much you feed them. Check the link in my sig for further comments about the NEW version of Ocean Forest.

Hey there all, how goes the grows? I started growing a year or so ago using the aerogarden but am now trying the ff ocean forest with added perlite. I too got the MG perlite because it was the only brand I could find locally. It does indicate that it has added nutrients. I'm not having any major problems. I'm giving them a low ppm now about 300 ppm of the ff big bloom, some bio-tone for some added nitrogen and some voodoo juice for increased root mass. Seems to be working well. I do notice that the soil is drying up rapidly. I was thinking about trying to put some of those clay balls used in the hydro systems on top, I heard that this helps them retain moisture. Has anyone ever tried that? Thanks!

I'm talking about the NEW version, as in I just bought my latest bag within the last two weeks. When was the last time you purchased and used some? It did great things for my grow last year, but now, meh!

Using it right now. Nutes are a little off balance. Used for side by side comparisons and alone, it did minor nute burn on established clones. Also it does drain EXTREMELY fast with nothing added. I think the makers are now just mass producing and not caring about how much of what they are putting in.
In the mix with perlite it helped with nute burn, drained even quicker, but my roots exploded in this mix.
In the mix with perlite, vermiculite FFOF it held TOO much water. Too 7 days for the plant to start using all the moisture, almost dampened off the plant. I dont reccommend using too much water retention with the new FFOF, it doesnt need it.
ALSO keep in mind, the nute burn was from JUST the soil. I have not added nutes to my plants yet for the purposes of side by side comparisons of the soil mixes. The nute %'s are DEFINATELY off.
Overall, it was the best choice to go with despite all the concerns. It has the best stuff to start off in and it does feed your plants for 1-2 weeks for sure. I recommend it even with the diminishing returns lately, just use smartly and watch your plant and how it reacts so you dont end up with a headache in the end.

I've used it in the past, and was happy with it. It may have just been a coincidence, but had thrips show up right when I brought new soil in for transplant. I'd heard other people complain about bugs with OF. So, I stopped using it (Black Gold now). I've thought about trying them again. A friend recently said that he thought the new version was better/cleaner. But, now I'm hearing that the new one is not better... so, I don't know.

I started my grow with Roots Organic soil. Then I transplanted into FFOF and a couple days later I had white flies and fungus gnats. My grow room is very clean so I think the bugs came from the FFOF soil. Been fighting the bugs ever since. I think I will stick with Roots Organic soil next time.
