FoX Farms burning a seedling

Hey all,
I have a mix of 4 different strains, all going to dirt at the same time and are a week into sprouting/seedling phase.
My durban poison seedling looks to have died (or is in the process of dying) because of nute burn. Perhaps to much nitrogen. Its leaves curl down, are brown tipped and it looks to be withering.
The other three are off to a great start and are different strains all-together and seemingly LOVE FF.
Is it possible some strains just can't handle FF ocean? I could start the next seed in something else, and transfer to FF if needed, or abandon this type of soil for certain strains.

It happens with some strains using Fox Farms Ocean initially… it is a nute dense potting mix.

Most will recover / acclimate over some time.
In the future you could start germination in mild starter mix ( solo ) then transplant when ready.

Seedlings can still work straight in fox farms but it is possible it can overwhelm it at the start.

Add nothing …. Only a little water when “ needed “.
Let it try to work thru it.

You could always fill a “ final “ container with FFOF - remove a solo cup worth of it from center ( fill that pocket with HF ( happy frog or similar MILD potting ) , plant seed or rooter into that …. Sand box it and let it grow within mild section and eventually move thru denser mix .

@BonesBuds , hi and sorry about your grow, same thing happened to me a few years ago. @Budzbuddha is right on in both posts. If I may add, don't feed until the 3rd set of leaves have developed, let the cotyledons do their thing, then start lightly.

One image shows a healthy neighbor, the other is the one I believe is “burnt”. It’s hard to see it, but I’ve propped it up with a piece of bark. It’s not looking good

I agree with waiting to feed. I've noticed FF and its liquid fert are INCREDIBLY hot. Even when I cut the strength by more than half I commonly see signs of burn... I plan to switch to a different kind of fert, and not administering any of it until a full month has gone by (post seedling)

I'll do exactly that next time, especially with this strain. Others don't react poorly, so I'm assuming the problem is a mix of variables.

I would advise to fill the pot full of soil in the first picture, the plants stem is thin and pale, the dirt will help support as well as allow more roots to grow.

Strange, I've used FFOF for many years and never had any burn problems. Once my seeds pop, I put them directly into FFOF, and begin feeding according to the seedling schedule.

When one seedling is unhealthy like that, and the rest look good under the same conditions it can sometimes be genetic.

Its possible its a one off situation.

I got away from ffof all together. Soil is to inconsistent. Sometimes its so hot u dont need to feed plants for over 2 months. Ff liquid nutes is crap imo. Great if u want nute burn. All nutes can work but their feeding schedule is a crap shoot/joke. It's trial by error.

I've been hearing similar from others... I think I'll continue using FF until I become more advanced.

I've had few to no issues using Ocean Forest, but I do sometimes start things in a mix of Happy Frog and Ocean Forest. Frog seems to encourage rooting and wouldn't overwhelm sensitive plants

A friend suggested the same thing, that we use coco and/or happy frog for the same reason... I'll use this brilliant logic going forward!

Yep, i really like happy frog. I mix mine with coco as well. I have also used ocean forest as a top dressing in place of nutes.

Lately I've been starting seeds in a solo cup with ffof, but I put a layer of coco on top, about 2 inches. As the seedling grows, the roots work there way through the coco into the soil and seem to love it. I'm a total newbie to indoor growing so take it with a grain of salt, but it's been working well for me..

Move to Pro Mix HP or Sunshine 4 and forget Fox Farms expensive soils. Also try using Black Gold seedling mix. Cheap and available everywhere. No problems with nute burn.
