Fox Farm Nutes?

i use the whole fox farm line up and it all works great once you get the hang of it just like any nutes
I'm about three weeks away from flowering and plan on following FoxFarm's schedule exactly.

Is there any advice that you have? Less, more or just stick with their schedule?

I wouldn't be surprised if you recommend less than what is on the schedule. I burned by plants following their schedule using their soil and Grow Big recommended amounts at 15ml per gallon.

if you are using the ocean forest soil it is hot enough to get you thru the vegging before you need to start adding feeds. during flowering i would feed tiger and big bloom with a splash of molasses. i've had many successful grows using this cobination.
I can attest to this and it has caused me a lot of frustration.

I followed FoxFarm's advice to the letter: 4 to 1 ratio between Ocean Forest soil and their Big and Chunky perlite; not just any perlite but THEIR perlite (the guy at the hydro store even looked at me weird when I said I can only have their perlite).

I noticed that all my leaves were and still are an incredible dark hunter green and the pictures of cannabis leaves in High Times were nowhere near this level of darkness nor were the leaves of those plants growing outdoors. About the fifth week of veging the lower leaves started turning yellow and dying. It wasn't until I read Jorge Cervantes' Marijuana Horticilture Medical Grower's Bible that I realized I was over fertilizing; extremely dark leaves followed by yellowing of bottom leaves followed by nute burn at the tips followed by nute burn spots throughout the leaf. Even mixing the Grow big at 1/4 of the strength seems to be too much.

Anyone else experience this problem?

I have other plants now that have never received Grow Big and their leaf color is a much lighter green; like you would find on a plant growing outside.

Am I better off loading the plant up with as much nitrogen as possible (extremely dark green leaves) so when I go into flowering the plant can draw from that stored energy (like a running start) or should I go for the more natural green that implies using less nitrogen thus less energy for the plant to draw upon at a later date?

I know I'm not the only person who has this question; I and others would greatly appreciate a response.

Go with everything... including the solubles (Open Sesame, Cha Ching, Beastie), and some sugar... and cha ching ya go yourself some kind smoke. Fox Farm does it right, and it shows.

So here is my typical schedule. One thing I want to point out is that I do Clones/Seedlings/Vegging in 4.5" pots and flower in 8.5"-10" pots. I think people growing in smaller plants probably have to start using nutes sooner because the soil gets used up faster. Just a guess, no facts to back it up.

Clones/Seedlings
Soil is 4 parts FoxFarms Ocean Forest to 1 part perlite
Weeks 0-2: I use straight water
Week 3: 1/4 strength
Week 4: 1/2 strength
Week 5: 3/4 strength
Week 6+ Full strength as long as they are in veg

Flowering Plants
Soil is regular FoxFarms Ocean Forest, nothing else. I always transplant to new soil right before flowering.
Week 1: 1/2 strength
Week 2+: Full strength
Week before harvest: No nutes

I've just been following their feeding schedule that they post on the web. This is my first grow using their solubles and I'm also using molasses for the first time. Checked the pantry and I had a new unopened bottle of the good type in there. Score! :)

As for the Bushdoctor:Sledgehammer. It's not listed on their current site or feeding schedule but it's listed on their PDF feeding schedule from 2005. Attached (sorry for jpeg, original PDF was to large to upload)

Beautiful pic, Spode. My plants started doing the same thing (extremely dark, weird highlights, eventually yellowing) when I started topping off my reservoirs with dilute nutro solution. Jorge's book says to do this at about 500ppm...I think I mixed mine to 640ppm and said "eff it, that's close enough." Well guess what...

Someone said to me recently that the Fox Farm solubles are "salty" and therefore I should be sure to flush my system regularly or I'd get clogs in the lines and such. Perhaps their "saltiness" contributed to a nutrient lock? Flushing the hell out of the whole room solved it for me, whatever it was.

By the way, two tables of PK have been dried and trimmed and averaged a bit over a P per 1000w light. It's dense, crystally, purpley, stinky, and delightful!

ok dudes, I think I’m ready to rock-n-roll. Kevin, Techno, Allred83 and sgt d, I’m looking to you guys for advice here; and anyone else.

Quick Situation Summary:

After 110 days of veg’n I’m ready to start bloom’n with the FoxFarm line up. As mentioned earlier I was using their recommended feeding schedule of Grow Big and Big Bloom and I kept burning my plants. As I discovered, along with others, FoxFarm’s Ocean Forest soil is quite rich in nitrogen to begin with and the need for Grow Big may not be needed. As mentioned in the Marijuana Bible by Jorge Cervantes the beginning signs of over fertilization are extremely dark leaves. And I had that because of my use of Grow Big that later led to yellow nute burned leaves.

I began my final veg week (18 hours on, 6 hours off, metal halide) 7 days ago with Open Sesame at ¼ teaspoon per gallon. And I will continue to do this for the next two weeks as I start flowering (12 hours on, 12 hours off, high pressure sodium) also adding Tiger Bloom at 2 teaspoons per gallon and Big Bloom at 1 tablespoon per gallon. Then Beastie Bloomz and finally Cha Ching. Tiger Bloom and Big Bloom are at constant amounts throughout the flower cycle and Grow Big briefly coming into play the third and fourth week of the flower cycle.

A few bullets points of additional information:

  • My soil mixture is four parts Ocean Forest to one part Big and Chunky perlite.
  • I’m growing in 4.75-gallon pots.
  • My light is 600W; quantity 1.
  • The two White Widow plants I have were topped at 27 inches down from 42 inches and are now back to 40 inches with four very strong main branches (per plant) that I hope will each become their own main cola.
  • The current water schedule is 3000ml every other day.

Here are my questions for those of you who have experience with FoxFarm nutes.

Should I stick with the recommended schedule for Tiger Bloom at 2 teaspoons per gallon and Big Bloom at 1 tablespoon per gallon? Or is the Ocean Forest soil also hot with extra phosphorous like it is with nitrogen and maybe I should use half the amount recommended?

@Techno Mage- very helpful, thank you. Because I’m growing in 4.75-gallon pots I doubt I will need to use Grow Big unless I’m vegging in excess of 6 months or so. You wrote– “If I see a difference using the Beastie Bloomz and the Cha Ching, I'll definitely be using Open Sesame on future grows.”

Did you see a difference Techno? And if so how impressed were you?

@Allred83- you seem to have quite a bit of experience with the solubles (Open Sesame, Beastie Bloomz and Cha Ching), any advice you have on “getting the hang of it”? Is the FoxFarm soil hot in other areas besides nitrogen that would result in me using less than the recommended amounts of the solubles? (1/4 –1/2 teaspoon per gallon).

@Kevin- sense you too are using FoxFarm soil did you deviate from the recommended amounts of Tiger Bloom (2 teaspoons per gallon) and Big Bloom (1 tablespoon per gallon) when you started flowering?

@sgt d- you mentioned you had a lockup possibly because of salt, were you using Big Bloom at the recommended amount (1 tablespoon per gallon for soil and hydro)? FoxFarm says that using Big Bloom will help growers reduce the chance of mineral salt build-up occurring.

Any advice will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

what other nutes does foxfarm have that they dont mention on their charts and how and when do you use molasses on the plant.on soil what do you think about using soil with a coco mix and the foxfarm nutes will that bring good results.THANKS

bongsmilieBUMP again for my questions, see above.

@Rookie- sgt d might be the guy to answer that question for you. So far the only variation I have found is not to use Grow Big if you are using Ocean Forest soil. For how long all depends on the size of your containers.

im using small pots then transfer to 3 gallon buckets.i picked my strains yesterday they are shamen kush/Mk kush/green crack/white widow/supersilverhase/purple lavender.is there any other foxfarm nutrients that would help with this kind of grow.THANKsbongsmilie

FFOF soil does not have excess PK. It has enough GB and BB for about three weeks, but is not supplemented with TB OS CC or Beastie.

Also dont forget to get that Grow big back in to the feeding sch. I was a week late getting it back in and I got a N def.

All the nutes are hot to a certain degree. You have to see how much your plants can take.
FFOF is full of nutrients, but no P or K.
The tiger bloom is what is causing the nutrient burn.
You should cut back to half strength and see what happens.
Add molasses every watering (1 Tbl/gal to start off).
Happy Smokin!!!

hi i am a noob and i am in the middle of my first grow. I am about 4 weeks into veg and I think my soil has ran out of nutes. I am going to the hydro store today to get some FF nutes. After reading I think I am going to get Grow Big and Big Bloom for veg and Tiger Bloom for flowering. Is this correct? Why should I use big bloom during veg? is it necessary?

Use big bloom the entire grow. Its very low in NPK so it will never burn, also good as a foliar feed (during lights off only). Its not really a flowering food like the name suggests, rather an all around buffer stabilizer and light nute solution.

Also keep in mind big bloom is organic so dont use it with h2o2 or fungicides in your res or nute mix

Here are FF's grow charts and yes those are all the nutes they make that you will need. When you transfer to three gallon pots I'll assume you will do this a week or two before you go into flowering; I suspect you probably won't need Grow Big. If your leaves are an extremely dark hunter green then you might be at the beginning stages of too much nitrogen. And if your leaves go from a well balanced green to a very light green and then yellow then chances are you will need the additional nitrogen offered by Grow Big.

Ok, so today marks my 14th day into flowering and I'm following the soil schedule exactly EXCEPT for the Grow Big part. I'm working with 5-gallon-ish pots so it will probably be some time before I would need to add nitrogen. I could probably reuse the soil since I'm only working with 1 600W light.

Saturday I add Beastie Bloomz and my plants are already 50 inches tall (pot included). I topped them at 27 inches some time ago. Each plant has at least four main colas going so we'll see how it works out.
