FOUL Smell

Week 4 of flower, last night everything smelled great. This morning I opened up the tent and was hit with the most nasty smell. Best comparison is like when my kids were babies and had a nasty shit. I’ve been struggling with humidity in the tent, even though I have a 4” inline, 3 6” fans a dehumidifier and a damp rid hanger. When I opened the tent it was still up at 74%.

did notice a couple days ago after watering one of the plants had a shitload of runoff, like it filled the drip pan. Idk if it’s root rot or what but I freaked out and pulled that plant out and opened the tent right up to get the humidity down. The plants all look very healthy no discoloration, drooping, clawing or even burnt tips. Just the smell that wasn’t there last night. Any thoughts??

Dude, last year I had four beautiful trees. Then one day they went from smelling like heaven to spoiled apples and vomit. Then I saw the bud rot, how's your Rh been?

:x It’s been in the mid to high 60seven though I’m doing everything I can to get it down. Overnight last night was low 70s though

Something( one or more of your pots) probably went anaerobic on ya..
forgive my not knowing but what’s that??
What's the RH in the room the tents in? If it's significantly higher inside the tent you probably need more air exchange. You're not shutting the exhaust fan off are you?
That occurred to me too so I check the basement it’s in and it was at 60 so I bought a big dehumidifier to run in the room on top of all the shit in the tent I’m trying. No, the inline is on auto set at 50% so it’s constantly running.

My next thought was to add another inline fan as an intake. Is there any other way to increase the air exchange? Can I keep the lower vent flaps open while they’re asleep as if I did need to go in the room the canopy wouldn’t see any light?

I would run the dehumidifier on the continuous cycle for 2-3 days and see if you're able to control it at all. Other thing is to run lights at night when it's usually most humid. Open up all the vents and flaps. Hell leave the tent open if it's in a mostly dark area and would only be exposed to light when you go in the room. I bet after you get the humidity sucked out of the room you will be able to figure it out.

or mold, you smell any musty smell in it? you have your humidity way too high, I heard these people say this and that about humidity. the only tool you need to know is reading read about the issues and correct them, I ignored most of these people on here & listened to scientists and older growers, I bought the trimmer to put my buds in and it turns, and there go the trimmings as a shake on the bottom of the trays while the trimmed buds stay on the trays, I KNOW ABOUT THE HAY SMELL AS WELL, I DIDN'T HAVE ANY FANS ON THEM, NOTHING, THEY SAY HANG THE TREES FROM THE TOP BRANCHES SO THE WHOLE TREE CAN DRY ON THE LINE, DONE THAT, TURNED TO HAY, what leads me to freeze drying, they wanted 7500 but I got 1 for 3600, I bought it & I got to set the controls but so far I'm not getting the hay smell, you want the bud smell of the terpenes which is dried up, if he has mildew growing in the soil overwater, as time goes on you will get better, the only thing is to do is read, READING IS FUNDAMENTAL! it is it gets quite interesting & can't stop, reading Ed's books. or even go onto Ed Rosenthal's youtube site & watch his techniques & methods, these are the old growers I'm talking about. use this as a tool, don't ask for assistance use your brain, you won't get anywhere by asking questions, you read about them then you'll see the issues & you will know how to fix, it's only experience, you become better if you do it & look things up yourself and read about them, you will know what you done wrong as you'll read then you will see for yourself

Good grief.

Tons of growers have come to this site and received excellent information from many people. However, none of that information has come from you.

If your concerned about light getting in during dark period you can get a light baffle which will allow air through but not light. Does your tent have an inlet at the bottom? Thats where I'd put the baffle so you can draw cool air in at the bottom and vent out the top.

You would increase the air exchange by adding a bigger exhaust fan rather than adding an intake fan. Passive intake is fine. What size tent do you have? And what kind of 4" exhaust fan are you using? When you say inline fan it's not just one of those duct fans is it?

If the RH is 60 in the room the tent is in you should be able to keep it close to that. It shouldn't spike that much in the tent. Something with your setup is incorrect.
