For those who did LST & FIM; which method is stouter?

This topic has been beaten to death, whether to LST or FIM? But it has mostly been on which gives you a higher yield.

My question is which method will keep the plant shorter and more manageable? Manageable to me means not extensive side branching, or in other words, just 2-4 main colas to take care of.

I did LST my only time, and while it did keep the plant short, but 1 or 2 main colas got very tall by the very end of flowering because I didnt want to tie budding plants down.

Who has done both LST an FIMing (or topping) to give their opinion on which method will keep the plant shorter? Hell, the topic can include super cropping if someone thinks its better than the other two

i have done both. at the same time even. on my first grow i fimmed at about 3 weeks. flowered at about 4. had 3 really nice colas, and one atrophied one cuz i cut that one a bit too close. as well, i did some lst on it. that ended badly, the plant was tied down to a wooden pallet, nails all around the outside to tie to. i had the canopy almost perfect flat, and then moved it back under light and the fucker tipped over. ripped a nice tear where the main colas met. i mended it, and it grew just fine. this grow i only had 2 plants fimmed and those two blew the others away in budage. strain was a factor on one though, and the other may have coped with the shit i put all of them through a little better.

now on to the point. if you wanna do LST, imo you should just set up a SCRoG it is the most effective method ive seen. other than that i prefer fimming. supercropping i have no tried. it looks to be a pretty good method as well.

i think i might fim just for the convenience of it, and if i see i will be in trouble with height, i can just tie them down.

You might want to look into using Bushmaster, perhaps in the future if not now. Stuff is pricey but it works.

FIMming will give you a wider canopy but is best used with some LST to help spread the branches and keep the height down. You will get a number of main colas that way.

Yes, products like Bushmaster will help to control the height. I have heard many good reports on the Bushmaster but have never used it myself. I have used other similar products with great success.

Just got done with my first regimen of Bushmaster over the weekend. Since then the only growth has been bud production. :)
