Rasmussen has been running individual candidates (official and non-official) against Obama. Paul got 37% and Obama 41% on their individual matchup. While that is not as good as some of the other candidates, I see it as a sign that people are starting to once again warm up to the idea of individual freedom over the authority of the government.
What's going to be the biggest part of this uphill battle is explaning his positions on things like the civil rights act, ADA, and a few others. I heard one poster in another post try to equate Paul's position on those issues as advocating and promoting racism; that person isn't just an isolated example, as many people seem to think the government's job is to dictate morality - the left is just as guilty as the right in this position.
It's time to stop playing left vs. right, conservative vs. liberal, Democrats vs. Republicans - and find the candidates that actually believe in protecting the rights (life, liberty, & property) of our citizens. Find candidates that will actually follow the Constitution, and not just cherry pick the parts that agree with them. Don't like certain parts of Constitution? Neither do I, but I want our government to follow it as written... We can change it, there are several different ways to amend it, some of which do not even include our Congress. In fact Thomas Jefferson wrote directly about this, and suggested that every generation should hold a constitutional convention to present amendments to the states for ratification. This is much better than saying the document is outdated and obsolete, and therefore should be loosely interpreted.
