? for Organic Smart Pot Users

I have a question for organic growers using smart pots. Do the pots have to sit on a layer of pebbles or can they just sit flat in the catch tray? I'm just curious about if they will get moldy on the bottom if they have no air movement underneath. Thanks organic peeps.

Hey good question, yes and no, well maybe!!! Heheheheh

What i do is have a small fan blowing at the smart pots, this helps dry out any excessive water, and can also prevent mold on my grow tents. As for the mold in the smart pots, i really wouldnt know if its mold or actualy microbes/fungi that are being pushed out the smart pot. It doesnt bother me much..

I would try both methods out that you mention, im sure u wont have any serious problems long term, also try what i mention, small fan blowing on the smart pots. Helps alot

Ok thanks man. Does the air pruning help to increase yield?
Well according to the smart pots yes, ive seen some comparisons, but theres too much factors to really say that it does. I personally like them because the fabric acts like a sponge and sucks the water back into the pot. I used air pots, plastics and a couple other types of pots, fabric pots are def the best im my opinion

I run my my pots flat on the floor and have no issues with mold. I run big smart pots and I could see levitating them would be beneficial but they will grow monster roots with the bottoms on the ground. I love these pots more than any that I've tried. They will grow plants faster than buckets no doubt.

As long as some air gets below the pots and they are not crammed together closely, you should be good. I have my plants on saucers inside my tents and, I pull them out to inspect each time I water/feed (except my SCROG's)

When I did have a problem with mold on the smart pots during a previous run (the pots were too close together) I sprayed a little 3% Hydrogen peroxide on the outide of the pots to kill the mold. Worked for me.

I put a light layer of pumice along the bottom of the pot before adding soil. I like the idea of sitting on pebbles. I may go grab some garden pebbles at home deps.

Same here hyroot. I just buy clay pebbles, 45 liters for 25 bucks and put them on the bottom of pot and the top. My air roots get massive and woody.
