Footprint for COB spacing

This may seem a basic question:
A single COB has a viewing angle of 115°, which means it emits a cone of light from the
surface downward, and depending on the distance from the source, produces a "circle"
of light of a certain size at maximum brightness which decreases in brightness outward.

Is there a rough guide to how large one of these circles would be at set distances usually
used in light placement, ie 12", 16", 18", 24" above the canopy (assuming canopy is flat)

Working with multiple lights, these circles blend together, and many of the DIY seems to take
the room area size and divide it by number of lights across. The closer to the source, the
more intense this circle becomes but this maximum circle size is smaller. Does it matter?

Just trying to figure placements without having to hang it and turn it on...

A basic formula is height = 1/2 width of coverage area. Without 90 degree optics maybe a bit closer, with optics maybe a bit further. Distance from emitter to emitter should be similar to height. When I've planned custom builds I usually add a margin around the outside when using smaller emitters so the lamp doesn't need to be so close to the canopy.
