To me, it made enough sense to change my mind about it. You've got guys cutting lights for 72 hours, revegging for a week before harvest, throwing ice, etc., yet stressing the plant out by making it realize its life is about to end sounds like complete nonsense, right?

Nobody is actually debating this. It’s settled science that at best it does nothing, at worst it gives your plants a nutrient deficiency.

Both mean nothing without a scientific study behind it.

True. I'd imagine in order to do a dissertation on the effects of senescence on a plant, he has some science behind it and not just being a bro. On the other hand, he has an extraction business. On the other hand again, these claims were not used in a way that asserted that his products are better than others. When the host found out his specialty was in senescence, he asked him about flushing and that is what led to that.

Have you read his dissertation on the effects of senescence of a plant? Again, claims can be made by anyone.

What relevance does him owning an extraction business have to do with the conversation? None.

No. Everything he said seems reasonable enough to me. To date, there aren't any scientific studies that assert flushing has no molecular effect, so we each have to pick which we choose.

You know what the phrase "on one hand x but on the other hand y" means?

I was suggesting that he could be fabricating because he has a business to protect. However, in the context it was brought up and discussed, it had nothing to do with his business and was a side discussion when the host found out about his specialty in senescence, so I think he's being genuine and not sheisty. You are free to think he's just an idiot, though; there are plenty of PhD's who are.

If you lower EC at the end of flowering, the plant will uptake more water, potentially resulting in increased bud swell. Science bros.

I remember about 15 years ago people were flushing with sucanat claiming it sweetened the buds. People were just buying it at the store and mixing it with water themselves. Then the nutrient companies moved in seeing a cash cow and started putting a few pennies worth of different sugars in bottles and selling it to people that didn't know any better.

PhD doesn't mean anything once these guys decide to get in on the cannabis cash grab. Just look at that Harley dude schilling for RAW convincing people that 2 oz of a chemical salt is worth $14.95 when anyone can go buy pounds of the same stuff for less.

How would informing people that flushing forces a plant into senescence and increases monoterpenes benefit a business that sells extracts when he never said flushing is what makes his product better? He is selling no products to growers and growers are the only people that flush or not flush.

I still flush and I don’t care what anyone says. I’ve tested both myself in my conditions and I can tell a difference in the end product.

I don’t think it’s settled science at all. The one study from RX everyone is citing pretty much says there is a negligible difference in the end product. First off this study wasn’t rigorous enough to hang your hats on like you guys are. I don’t pour gallons of water down my pots but I do water with plain water the last few weeks. I have done both and I can two the difference. I’m no scientist but if you grow with salts there is a noticeable difference in the end product. My opinion it goes without saying.
