Fluorescents question - True or False?

I've heard in a YouTube video that it's best to have both warm and cool colored flourescents for seedlings, clones, and mother plants. Basically for vegetative growth only. True or false? Because I was under the impression that T5 6500K lights only are the way to go...

During veg, the plant utilizes the blue spectrum. I use both in my two tube t5. I'm of the belief is best to mimic natural sunlight as much as possible. Using only blue you'd be fine. It's not Really the biggest deal, more of a preference.

While there is plenty of info about PAR (photosynthetically active radiation) and PUR (" Usable "), to get you started, TonightYou is right on. Yes, the plant benefits from a more blue spectral mix during vegetative stage, but that doesn't mean zero red. A typical 4 bulb pattern for a T5 for vegetative would be 3 65K, 1 27/30K. Some might balance this out right before flipping to 2 65K and 2 27K, but after the flip you'd want to reverse your mix. But, once you start looking into it, you'll find that there are plenty of people tweaking the spectra of their lights for different stages and different puproses. For example, its well known that adding an hour of IR (infrared radiation, the spectral segment just below red visible light) right after lights off can increase resin production significantly in many (mostly indica dom.) plants. Personally, I run a T5 setup all the way through with 50/50 fish-tank lights (50-50 refers to the balanced mix of blue and red spectral segments...i use zoo med florasuns) mixed into my 12 bulb lineup.
hope that's helpful,
