iv never had any luck with ft thay are a wast of time for the same mony get 4-6 6500k 30w cfl and 2-6 2700k 30w cfl. sume of us just use 6500k for veg and 2700k for flowering but if you ant got lots of mony to spend by both and run them at the same time moor lights the beter

the t5 gives 90 lumens per watt, compared to a cfl giveing about 64,they also are desighned for growing with its balanced spectrum.a 4footer goes for 40 dollars ballast and light, just make sure you get the high output ones.

major your a cfl guy as well as hps, whats the highest lummens for cfl have you seen.
As far as i know cfl's are about 70 lumens per watt at most. I have done the math and even looked in some of my horticulture books.
Here's how my cfl's work out,
45w 2700k 2900 lumens = 64.444 LPW
27w 6500k 1600 lumens = 59.259 LPW
23w 4100k 1600 lumens = 69.565 LPW
15w 4100k 800 lumens = 53.333 LPW
15w 2700k 800 lumens = 53.333 LPW

Envirolites may put out close to 100 LPW, but that's a different story...

Hey Tokey

I don't think even Envirolites put out 100 lumens per watt to be honest.

The best performing (in terms of lumens per watt) fluorescent I've seen is the T5 High Output linear fluorescents which get close to 100 lumens per watt. I don't think you'll ever acheive that with CFL's.

The problem is, lumens isn't the measurement you should be looking at.

Babygro that's pretty much what i was saying. I knew it was just a matter of time before you would show up and clear things up here.

But Tokey, you've moved over to the 'Dark Side'! 400w HPS indeed!

I had you down as a committed fluorescent grower!

I do love my 400w, but i am not really committed to anything yet. I'm still playing with all the different toys on the market, i like it all...

Thats totally cool - people need to work out what's best for them - as I've always said.

I've been looking at getting some T5's for a mother/clone/seedling cabinet I'm planning on building and have been pretty impressed with the outputs of the Sylvania Grolux T5's, they're real 'bad boys', outputting about double the plant useable light for the same wattage 6,500k daylight spectrum. They're pretty impressive. Biggest problem with them is getting the fixtures to go with the T5 HO's at a reasonable price. The T8 versions are easier and cheaper to get, but aren't as efficient.

I had planned on getting a 250w Lumatek digital ballast, but I've put that on hold for the moment, whilst I see what these Grolux's can do.

Hey babygro i am interested in getting some of these T5 HO's for vegging, i have been for a while now. Do they put out more heat then the T12's?
