Fluffy not packed

My harvests have been nice. But I noticed that my bud is very fluffy and burns quickly as opposed to what I used to buy. When I bought buds they seemed very tightly packed and burned slower.

What I am doing differently?

If you use lots of cfl's and keep them very close like less then 1 inch away at all times the buds will be tighter. Some tips for flowering with cfl's are; start flowering when the are small 4 - 7", keep the cfl's very close so the are almost touching, use as many cfl's as you can. Trying to keep numorus cfl's that close for months can become a real pain in the ass, looking for a new spot to hang or clamp the cfl's and always burning the fan leaves and shit. Before you know it your using more electricity trying to get those nice buds with cfl's, then if you would have just bought an hps. Also when you have to buy a boatload of cfl's, sockets, and wire the cost adds up. Save yourself all the trouble and get yourself a hps.

:peace:

the buds I am growing are very densely packed, your theory is a given.... of course you can squish bud so it looks like its denser than it is, but he is having issues because of the light phase. His buds are not growing as dense as they should be because he is using a pitiful cfl light.

I love the gusto when I read these but ya gotta realize these lights BARELY squeak by when you are growing herb.

theres no problem growing veg. stage with cfl as long as u know wat u r doing.
if u use cfl to flower u wont get as much proffit as if u would use hps

i have 6 48 inchs cfl for veg and a 400w hps for flower
i get at least a ounce from every plant with no problems

Cfls will give fluffy smaller yields compared to hps and mh lighting. I like to use 4 foot florescent tube lights to get clones going then toss my clones under my regular lights for 10 days then got o 12/12 under 2 600 watt hps digital ballast for 5 weeks. That get me 3-4 foot finished planst .Lats grow yield a little over total 132 wet ozs from 25 plants. www.marylandhydroponices.com has 400 watt digital switchable lights for $99 and 600 watt digis for $119

when you buy bud from the street. its usually air compressed to make it a smaller package. you got to rememer that transporting weed is illegal in most places. therefore people who sell in large quantity. (like 100 to 200 ponds) will transport the weed more discreet and to be able to send as much as possible with the space they have. also by
air compressing the weed, they face smaller problems with odor when transporting it.

My summer bil is little higher like maybe $245 but I run the ac all day and the pool pumps all day also.My 1000 watter hps run 24 hours aday all month costs about $60 amonth which is little more then my 2 600 watters cost running 24 hours a day a month.Winter bill drops when ac and pool get turned off to about $150 a month total house cost.I also run 5-8 computers daily and a big screen tv so that eats power

when my 12/12 starts, I usually turn on the light at night off during the day. this way you can keep the room cooler during the hot summer day. also, many power company will charge you less for not using power during peek hours like 1pm to 9pm or something. check with your power company. the rates are small difference, but trust me, it adds up fast

I just finished a CFL grow and my buds are plenty dense. I used a decent amount of light, around 150-200 actual watts per plant. My lights stayed 4 inchs from the plants at all times, and still turned out very nice.erhaps you didnt have enough light or you picked it prematurely before the buds had a chance to get more dense. I noticed my buds didnt start to get thick until week 6-7 of flowering.

I agree with eslm. If you have the room and the cash, sure an HID will give you the best results... BUT, if you have limited space and funds, you can get high output CFL's that are very satisfactory. I've used a 250W (actual) 6400K for veg. and the same bulb in a 2700K (red spectrum) for flowering on my last two attempts, and was quite happy. I kept around 5" of space above the plants at all times. I have a space of 18"W x 24"L x 36"H, so I get plenty of light with little heat and a low electrical bill.
