what if a plant is said to flower in 10 weeks but at week 7 it already looks like all the hairs have turned pretty dark red and it’s leaning over? Are they wrong sometimes?

I have a GSC that is ripening a couple weeks earlier than the 10 weeks too. Over all how does the plant look? Are the trichomes cloudy with some amber yet? I think breeders under estimate bloom times to help sell seed.

Just go by the trichomes. A seed is variable, some more than others depending on how stable the strain is. It's not like growing from a clone where it's predictable.

Good point about seed variability! These are two Lemon Zkittles. Same light same fertilizer, planted the same day. Granted the one on the left was in veg 10 days longer. When I switched the one on the right to 12/12 they looked identical.

If the caxlys are swollen and it looks some primo fire ass weed then yer they were wrong on this occasion. If its merely the pistils and the calyxs and look aint great then id assume less than perfect conditions and not the breeder.

Breeders flowering times are historically very inaccurate! I chalk it up mostly to the fact that breeders grow conditions are different from all of ours, and the differences in genetic phenotypes. If you go into the grow with that expectation, and you learn to watch ALL the signs of the plants maturity. The stigma receed, then the bracts swell. Waiting for that full swell is really valuable to quality and yield. The trichomes will mature during this swell period and you can decide exactly when to chop.

DO any of you feel strongly about harvesting right before lights come on or is it important
I have read that it makes a very tiny difference in potency, very tiny. In my situation it's impossible to harvest at a perfect time and I just shut down the grow lights, turn on a CFL and chop, for several days lol. Usually takes my about 5 days to chop it all and get it into bread trays to dry and then be trimmed.

Breeders times are based on their set ups and the desired pheno. Generally they are sealed rooms and strains they have grown for awhile so its a dialed in environment. Times are based off 12/12 switch. Seeds throw diff phenos and in those their will be a few expressions and timelines.
Pop a few beans and keep what you prefer.
