Flowering under both HPS and MH together, your thoughts

If you have both available and can afford the electricity...go for it. You can never have too much light. I use both spectrums for both phases.

4k of each all winter then the normal mh/hps cycles during summer and nothing beats using both besides the sun barely and only cuz of it penitrates so deep and covers so much.

I notice there is alot less yellowing at the end of the bloom cycle. Plants stay green and healthy right until they face the axe.

YES!!! I have done this for a while now... I have found that in varying amounts of MH/HPS througout the entire life cycle, I have produced bigger yields, consistantly, as compared to the "old" method of MH for veg, and HPS for flower... I use more MH than HPS during seedling/veg stages, and then gradually increase the HPS as I begin flowering, still keeping AT LEAST a 250 or 400W MH in there with all my HPS's... I absolutely stand behind this method, and suggest it to everyone... That with proper ventilation, temp control, CO2, and great, all-natural, organic nutes, makes for the dankest colas and nuggets I've ever seen, from the West Coast to the East Coast...and everywhere in between... The MH is purported to increase the odds of females turning up, but I dunno for sure on that one, although I usually have better than the "textbook" 50/50 results with females, but the presence of MH during flowering also increases the resin production via trich production, because it is the plant's natural response to UV spectrums, which are present in MH light... And it also seems to help keep internodal spacing closer, providing fo chunkier, fatter colas... So, absolutely go with both... I even have mine timed to mimic nature, in that my HPS's will come on first, like sunrise, and then three hours into the 12 hour on period, my MH comes on for six hours, and then goes off, just like sunset... SO, why wouldn't anyone want to better re-create nature in the lighting of their gardens?

that red period speed up flowering times by activating hormones in the plant. im surprised no one has made a thread about red periods. i do 12-13 hours hps and 11 hours mh. in veg i run my MH 18/6 then for the other 6 a red fluoro. i have degrading daylight times, sunrise and sunset, works fuck
ing great

I couldn't agree more polyarcturus! Glad to see therez someone else who believes in the awesome, and from what I gather, little practiced art of using both types, at diffferent ratios and times...

thank you hard enough to come by nowadays damn nubs. but yeah man alot of Bs is passed around about lighting.. i play around with HID lighting the same way LED users play with theirs. i have better theorys and i replicate nature to encourage naturally occurring hormones and reactions also i dont turn th uv off. i just depends on what bulbs you run run a far as that goes but despite what people say the retisun 10.0 can be run all day the uv that comes from that is nice bonus in the perfect range for whole 12 hours use i turn it on with my MH it simulates noon better.

i had a big grow a while ago 2 400 hps vertical and 1000w MH vert. the left hps would come on for 8 hours then 2 hours later the 1000w mh for 8 hours then 2 hours later the right hps for 8 hours

:weed:In my opinion, the introduction of the HM/HPS dual electronic ballast has indirectly led people to believe that you can only finish under HPS. I personally know many experienced growers who think that finishing under only HPS is the industry standard. The folks at the local grow store don't do enough to inform people of the advantages of using both. I have learned early on from my mentor that this is a complete falsehood. Don't get me wrong it will work, but not as good as using both. I hope these folks are reading this thread.

My Thanks to everyone for having my back on this issue!

cool cfl are not powerful enough IMO(at least not for large grow rooms). now t5 you could get away with some vertical atinic bulbs. but then we are back to one of the most important things MH produces the second most UVA of any bulb. CMH and HPS produce under 5% total light in this range while MV and MH emit up to 20% in this range.
