Flowering Question

I've recently accepted the fact that I need to upgrade my lighting, and purchased a 400 watt apollo HID set up.

My question is, since I've already been flowering for almost two months, Ill be able to chop the tops, and let the underneath continue to flower
without serious effects?

Because the tops will be done soon, but there is still much undergrowth needing to go on...

Many other growers strip the lower growth the first couple weeks into bud using a method called lollipopping.

If you are running a perpetual system having to wait those extra weeks can jam up the works. Also you will find your tops are much nicer and easier to trim without all the popcorn buds down below.

I've actually already clipped a little of the undergrowth, but ill read up on "lollipopping"
Im sure it decreases yield significantly huh?

Not at all. all those nutrients go to the top of the plant where the bulk of the photosynthesis is going on.

Hey BigB- I've seen this successfully done. Ripe harvesting is performed on many plants outside the mj world with great success. You must be getting really close?

FYI.....Ive done it before and it works.I chopped 2 tops on 2 plants and let the rest go for another 3 weeks....didn't get much bigger but they filled out more....the buds you'd usually scrap for hash turn into choice nugs.peace

The tops of my "colas" should be ready within next 3 weeks... but the underneath growth, has barely even begun due to such lackluster lighting.....

I have a 400 watt HPS arriving tomorrow, was thinking, Ill chop the tops off, when they are done and let the underneath grow as much as it can...

So disappointing.

But its ok, was definitely a learning experience.

Mmmm, the smell of success. It's not like you won't have multiple future grows. You will see a great return on the 400w investment. It's a pain to have to deal with the heat issues, but once that's under control, the benefits greatly outweigh the cons.

Grorite and Vega both said they use the same ballast

Vega said he bought his from the same person, both said the heat given off were insignificant...

Does this mean you will be USING the hps tomorrow?.....It would be better if you did:)
As soon as it arrives, or as soon as I get home from work it will be installed lol.

will be 700 watts of light for two plants...

400 hps, 300 cfls..
