i'm going shopping today for my last lights and fertilizers. about to flower, i'm growing in 'organic' soil. should i use any special ferts for flowering? lower nitrogen during flowering and more P&K, right?

i just splurged and bought 2 400w HPS...bills bills. i'm going for 7 plants but they are not feminized. i figure i'll get 3 ladies. i wish i had a good cam for a preflower diagnosis. i am pretty sure however that my largest has balls.

for now, i have an assortment of CFL's and fluro tubes, totaling 23000 lumens. think i'd be doing alright by returning the HPSer's and ballasts?

Here are some visual aids ranging from about 3-5 weeks.

While you have done well to get the plants this far, they do seem to be a little stretched, I think you would do well to get them under a hps seeing as you got the facility

basically, "are CFL's and shitty fertilizers gonna do the trick for flowering?"

basically, "are CFL's and shitty fertilizers gonna do the trick for flowering?"

Sure, you only have to read the second link in my signature to see what can be done with limited resources. But as NGT said, you get out what you put in - you'll get a much bigger yield with a 400w HPS than you will with CFLs.

Regarding nutrients, again you get out what you put in. In my opinion, and it is only my opinion, if you're growing in soil, you may as well use the best organic nutrients you can get hold of and use them sparingly than perhaps buying cheaper middle of the road nutrients and using lots of them. If you don't want to pay the price for high end organic nutrients, use cheap chemical based ones and make sure you feed only plain water for the last two weeks before harvest. I don't really see a lot of merit for going for nutrients in the middle - they're all much of a muchness to be honest.

with 7 plants you will be able to start them off under the 1 light, then as the males appear and you take them out and you are hopefully left with 3 or 4 then the single 400 will be enough.

what about the transition from veg to flower, change the lighting gradually or just go for it w/ 12/12 all of a sudden?

when you decide its time to flower do the switch to 12/12, figure out first what time your going to be able to best access the grow room and base your times around this and then when its time to do that switch, kill the lights at the time you want it to end and set the timer to come back on for the 12/12 cycle

i figured i'd just go w/ nature and do the dark at night, starting at 9pm.

if i see pre flowers already, how long til i see pollen sacks generally?

You will know when they are testicles and you will no when you see white pubes in a v, its unmistakeable as soon as you see it
