My plant is 9 days old & I went up to water it this morning & it had flopped right over & was laying in the soil, obviously the stem is too weak! What has caused this & how can I fix it? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!! Cheers!

I have three recommendations:
1 - closer lights
2 - more lights
3 - fan blowing on them (and not just a gentle breeze either)

NOTE: lights must be something friendly to growing (so no incandescent bulbs).

the fan may have blown it over. jst stand it back up and raise the level of the soil around to hold it up and move the lights about 2 or 3 inches away.

can you move the light closer without burning the plant? if a fan blows your plant over there is no way it will support buds later on.

well its only 9 days...
theres chance.
i didn't see your other post - yes - AnitaNuggs is right - you can bury the stem up to the cotyledons (the first embryonic leaves - the oval ones - not the serrated ones) and get the lights closer if you can!

DO NOT PUT YOUR 250 WATT HPS LAMP 2-3 INCHES FROM YOUR PLANT. Unless you want to smoke it right there in the soil. Make sure you can place your hand at the top of your plant, and not feel any temps above like 85 degrees, 90 pushing it. Listen to what Email had to say. If you want to help stand the plant up, take a nice fat straw, cut it to a nice length needed, split it length wise, Place this around the stem, and push into the soil about 1/4 inch. Do not shove it down deep.

A picture of your set up and plant would really help. Are you sure it is a High Pressure Sodium light?

I moved the light closer this morning when I found it laying down & I also started with the grow nutrient this morning as well, will this help? What else can I do to strengthen the stem?

you can either bury it or support it until it establishes itself. as Lord Dangly says - be careful not to burn it but keep the light close enough to avoid the stretch. and try to keep the breeze on it - the stronger the breeze (and closer the lights w/o burning) should get you a nice thick stem that can support big buds later on.

i wouldn't feed it until it is about 3 weeks old (and has a few nodes on it).

you can also gently band the stem back and forth to "exercise" it.

also - make sure your walls are reflective to get as much light to the plant as possible.
without seeing or knowing your set-up, we can only give generic advice.

Cheers, I will take some pics in the morning to show you. Yeah it is a HPS lamp. I like the idea with the straw, I'll give it a go & I'll build the soil up abit too.

Im growing in a grow tent & it is reflective, should I stop the nutrients now then & give it another week or so? I'll try turning the fan up & see how it gets on with that.

i wouldn't feed it - you may introduce more problems. let's fix the stem first.

if you turn the fan up - make sure the stem is supported so it can receive the breeze without falling over.

I'll support the stem, stop the nutes, turn up the fan & see how it goes. Thanks for helping out, I'll keep you posted on how it goes & I'll get some pics up just to give an idea of the set up. Cheers

sounds like a plan! if it is really stretched (like more than 5 inches between the cotyledons and the soil - then you may want to consider burying part of the stem also.

You just mentioned waiting a week to feed it. I am a Hydro grower, but from what I have always read, when your plant is in full growth you should only be feeding it about once a week for soil.

But as I said, I am a Hydro Grower. I am just finally giving soil another chance right now. And i will only be watering my plants about ever 3-4 waterings to start with, and build very, very slowly. I started mine out at 200 PPM at two weeks. But I am using Coco grow medium. Looks like soil, but it has no nutrients, and is PH neutral.

Oh Yah, these are clones also.
