Flood & drain guys please take me to school.

I meant,out of a given bag, some will be floaters and some will be sinkers. Drain plugging,you might not have that problem.

See now this is the reason i started these threads,im following al's thread daily but dont want to fuck his thread up with little shit,this is the kind of responses i was hoping for,seeing half my hydrotron floating while the other half stayed put would of had me thinking i got a bad batch.

I take it the floaters are not a bad thing.

Also, a question if you dont mind,what size net pots are your preference ?

Check out my journal. I have a 2x2 tray made by botnicare that cost $40 and i have 15 individual pots with hydroton pellets and rock wool cubes. I have a bunch of clones rooting and they should be ready to go into my tray next week. I am going to update my journal when they go into the tray. I like using the individual pots because i can rotate each plant in the tray so they all get a even amount of light and it makes them a lot easier to work with.

5.5 in is the smallest I use,have a 3 foot tomatos outdoor in 5.5s their just getting going, with hydro you just need something to hold the plant and some nute/water the roots can grow in the tray,I made the raised areas from the botanicare 2x4 tray.

I have fifteen 4x4 pots. Since i am using SOG i want to keep the clones short and lollipop them so i have 15 colas. They go straight into flowering so they are only in the pots for 60 days and then harvest. I pretty much do it like AL.B does except i am using rock wool cubes and hydrotons.

My flood and drain fittings have screens that prevent the pellets from clogging it but i don't really worry about that happening since i am using the individual pots.

They can collect around the screen fitting, reduce its flow back to the rez and overflow tray.

Sounds like that's a good reason to use individual pots.

I dont mean to jack your thread but does anyone have any information about common flood and drain ph/tds fluctuation problems? I too am about to start a flood and drain and i cant afford to be blindsided by random ph problems.

you should be ok....its the most stable of all hydro applications as far as ph and tds is managed easily with top ups of fresh water every couple of days as needed. you'll get it with little to no problems. f&d has the most forgiving learning curve of all the forms of hydro other than maybe a wick system but those suck for full power ops....great for vacation watering if you dont have automation though.
